You, just like Lucas, have no idea what makes the original trilogy so GREAT.

I think we're officially past the "fool me twice, shame on me" point when it comes to expecting anything out of the prequels.

There should have been a third option, average. Think about it, Episode I was horrific, Episode II was an improvement, but not much, Episode III is bound to be at least 4 stars. The previous 2 received 3 stars each. And Lucas did say a long time ago this will be the best one of the trilogy, but will receive the least money because of the previous two letdowns already.

If you're projecting to give it 4 stars, I think you can safely select "definitely good" from the poll options.

I voted bad. The previous prequels were enormous letdowns for me, but perhaps my expectations were too high. From my perspecive, Episode I was as bad as, if not worse than, Battlefield Earth.

So what - slopping writing, bad acting, and hokey plots is what makes Star Wars great? I'll bite - what exactly did I miss?

I think the viewer's age has a lot to do with it

Oh, did someone else see this, ahem, film? I had to laugh because I often use this as an example of "the worst movie ever." Anyways...

If Wing Commander is just bad, then Star Wars 1 & 2 (and likely 3) aren't so bad, BUT they are a horribly missed opportunity. I was overseas when E1 came out, but I had read the book. So I started prophesying doom and I had a few people listen to me. Anyways, when it actually came out, I asked my brother and he said, "It wasn't as bad as you said it would be." Well, for someone with all the time, money, and talent that George had, to make a film that "wasn't as bad..." is truly sad. Heap that onto a trilogy that is well loved and that is one sadly missed opportunity.

That said, I'm still hoping to pull it around for E3. But I won't be surprised when I hate it.

Its the classic story of one man rising against an evil empire that is threatening the world. Instead of following in his father's footsteps, which would consist of ruling the entire universe, he challenges him. He would rather die then join his father. He believes in the good in his father and he then tries to change him. When he realizes that he can't, he chooses death. And it is only then that he is finally saved.

The original trilogy had an epic, almost biblical like storyline. And the new prequels have none of that.

One man? you've left out ANH from your plot as well.

This movie will be liked by those who liked the last two, and hated by those who disliked the last two. There won't be much wiggle room.

I think Rise of the Empire (yes, I know this is not the official title, but one can hope) will be the best of the three prequels.

I'm quite excited about Episode 3. Granted, I don't think Star Wars were ever amazing art defining films. They were always damn good fun, well made entertainment. I thought Phantom Menace was a close to terrible, but AoTC was a fun movie right back in line with what I had hoped for. Sure it had its problems, but I'd say i like it jsut as much as RoTJ.

So Episode 3 I think has the potential to be pretty damn good. The new prequels lack spark of characters that the original trilogy had, but Obi is solid and the story should be fairly rich and entertaining. And the effects work...well I for one love it.

You have got to be f***** kidding me. Of all the excuses SW fans spout to defend the series this is by far the most pathetic. I won't even waste time with a response.

Somehow I knew this thread would degenerate into the same, useless arguments. Those of you who hate the prequels, go right on hating them. But move on. Those of you who enjoyed the prequels, keep enjoying them. But move on from the useless debates. Neither side is going to convince the other of anything. All that's gonna happen is we're going to regurgitate the same, tired arguments we've regurgitated time and time again.

If it was as good as Phantom Menace, then it'll be crap.

I'm being cautiously optmistic, but this time I'm not going to be fooled by all the spoiler stuff like I had been for Episode II. Everything sounded very interesting and cool on paper, and TheForce.net even did a good mock-up ("scriptment") of everything that was known about the movie up to that point. But in the end, the finished product as a movie was barely passable as a medicore Star Wars film.

Will the third time be a charm for Lucas? Well, I'm not exactly holding my breath, and at this point, the only highight will be seeing the birth of Darth Vader. I'd like to see Lucas vindicate himself and make this the best of the prequels, but I won't be convinced until I see it for myself.

I predict that the movie will be good. I also predict that for a few days, everyone on the net (and these boards) will be raving about it. Then the public opinion will change. Then everyone will hate it.

Star wise, the previous two received 3 stars people... you know what other movie had 3 stars? The Terminator. Well 3.5

Man I finally came to the realization that the Prequels suck. I used to like them but all these intelligent arguments have convinced me otherwise. I'm glad there are people that are obviously more intelligent than I who can help me decide what is good and what is crap. Thank you DVD Talkers, I won't bother wasting my money on Episode 3 because you told me that would suck. Now I can save my time and spend my money on House of the Dead 2.
