I'm just hoping we don't have a lot of color grading changes.(T2 was really unfortunate, and there's no way he didn't supervise it) Probably will also be some shot updates (as was done with T2) but I don't have too much of an issue with those.

I hate these ONE NIGHT ONLY engagements, but damn . . . gotta' go.

Too bad it isn't 3D also.

I won't know for a week or so if I get that day off (I don't have set days off). Hopefully it'll have showings during the whole day since I usually don't do evening movies.

I put this in the HD thread but I guess it probably goes better here...

I saw this in the theater when it was first released and would love to see it in the theater again but this one day only shit sucks.

At least throw it in theaters for a week to give people a chance to see it whose schedule might not meet up with that one fucking day. So annoying.

The advertising poster image is unique as it's the first time any of the actor's faces have been shown in the artwork. Interesting too, this has Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio's image as top-billing.

It’s also ugly as sin but I guess if Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio’s face gets butts in the seats…

When I saw this thread bumped, I was thinking about how there were those several late 80s/early 90s years where MEM was an A list beautiful movie star.

So does this mean we're finally getting the Blu Ray for The Abyss?

Admittedly, she is not as attractive as every woman doing local weather in California, but she did keep getting cast as the female lead in major studio productions, so she must have been fuckable.

I will admit that I paused that scene a few times while watching this movie.

You do you but Mary Elizabeth Mastriano [sp?] was a beautiful actress in the 80s and 90s (haven't seen her recently]. I remember walking out of the theater after watching Scarface in 83 thinking Tony's sister was the sexiest woman in the movie [80s fashion notwithstanding]. She was also a stunning Maid Marian in that crappy Robin Hood movie.

Same!

The only friend I have that is excited to see it lives about 1-hour away.

Hopefully, there will be a theater close to both of us that we can see it at.

Tickets are on sale for the December 6th show in Dolby Cinema. Make sure you use your A-List membership -- regular prices are $24 - $29 depending which state/theater you're in.

$18 here. Not that it matters. I work that day and I have both the 5th and 7th off.

Not listed at my local AMC or the next IMAX an hour away. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 48 1/2 Year Anniversary is listed that night though.

The Cheapest ticket I've found is $11.50 at Cinemark on their extreme screen. I'm going to check a few other theaters before deciding where I'll go on the 6th.

I'm puzzled on the run time. Theater lists 2h20m. But isn't the special edition 2h48m (I haven't had the chance to look at my collector's DVD)? And I swear there was a version that ran 3h4m.

Yes the existing special edition runtime is 2h48m. Regal Cinemas is listing this as the director's cut with a run time of 2h55m.

Somebody in an office was assigned to look up the run time on the internet. They aren't paying any attention to the different editions. This is what you get if you google The Abyss Movie

The Abyss
PG-13
1989 ‧ Sci-fi/Adventure ‧ 2h 20m

It's $24.49 at my AMC in Dolby Cinema but my A-List membership covers the cost.

I thought A-List didn't usually cover special one-offs like this???

Only Fathom Events, which this isn't. The Back to the Future re-release in October and Christine were both Fathom and not A-List eligible.
