You do make a good point.

The problem is trying to find an audience one decade removed from the original viewing audience for a movie. With a movie that was as popular as Pulp Fiction was, your choices are limited.

Since the local teens in question tend to largely be college students (the town I work in is directly surrounded by two large campuses and has another 3 campuses within 10 minutes) with a better than average understanding of the history of film, I don't knock their opinions based solely on age. I've had discussions regarding experimental shorts by people like Stan Brackhage and Maya Deren with these teens, filmmakers whose names would largely draw a blank by many regular posters on this forum.

Age is irrelevant for me. If someone has a passion and a certain amount of knowledge for a subject, why should I discount their opinions?

Most teens are very stupid when it comes to film. Being in high school, I know this all too well. The only movie that exist in their minds are Scarface, Fear and Loathing, Fight Club, and Donnie Darko. I don't think their opinions matter all that much until they hit about 20.

I've been agreeing with Matt way too much this week. I'm starting to feel ill.

Any kid whose on-the-ball enough to know who these filmmakers are either thinks Pulp Fiction is a great movie or has a very specific, well reasoned explanation for why they don't. If these kids are such cinefiles then they didn't dislike Pulp Fiction for some banal "It didn't kick ass!" reason that many idiot audience members would give.

If these kids really dislike Pulp Fiction, and yet you don't understand why they dislike it, then you must not be communicating very well with them, because anyone that smart about film should have a reasoned explanation why they didn't like the film. Or they are so extraordinarily vacuous that they watch all these art films to impress their friends (you) and they still don't have a brain cell in their heads.
