I am thinking that this summer is shaping up to be the biggest box offices ever.

Rock on Hogwarts!

Seems like this will be a summer dominated by sequels, given the massive numbers of Shrek 2, this, and good buzz for Spidey. Then again, this is what happens when they make sequels that are actually good as opposed to hack jobs.

Holy crap. With the release of Spiderman 2, I think we now will have the Top 4 grossing films of the year in the first half of the year.

Shrek will have a $35-40 mil third weekend on it's way to easily top $400mil. DAT got it's ass kicked.

OH SNAP! Harry Potter might make more than $120 million this weekend!

Shrek 2 should secure in $30 million.
The Day After Tomorrow should secure in $25 million (now that's a huge drop).

I was way off from my predictions I made about this weekend last weekend for Shrek and DAT.

You know what's interesting to me? That The Day After Tomorrow will outgross both Troy and Van Halen. No one was predicting that last February.

Even Mean Girls is outgrossing Van Helsing this week. Talk about your proverbial bacon-trampoline!

Good news to the HSX players who bought up Harry Potter 3 over the last week. Including me.

How do you figure? It's still in the top 3. It's easily going to make the budget back. Nobody expected it to be this big. It is bigger than Troy and VH, which everyone expected to be big.

A big budget Emmerich disaster pic? It's a toss up with Troy, but I think anybody who expected Van Helsing to beat Tomorrow was either kidding themselves or is a Universal executive (or both).

I'm only hoping some people didn't buy in---that way my raise seems a bit more significant.

Not surprising. Van Halen doesn't tour anymore.

Wow, that seemed like a big number to me, but I just saw that's actually the record for an opening day too!

Sure it was expected to be big. They were going after the same audiences as all the other event save the world movies: Deep Impact, Armageddon, ID4. It'll do OK, but WOM must be horrible as it's looking at a 65% drop this weekend and top out at around $160-170 mil. It's the Hulk of 2004.

What industry mags are you reading? VH had huge expectations. While it has made buckets of money, and will be a profit, it certainly didn't live up to expectations.

From what I've read, VH was predicted to fall into the $175 million range, where as DAT was predicted to be in the $125-$150 range.

When I heard that kid shout out "OH SNAP!" when he finally saw his new pimped-out ride, I almost lost it. I didn't think people actually said "OH SNAP!" in real life, only online.
