What is the Hollywood Stock Exchange?

From the website: “Buy shares of your favorite actors and their new movies. Watch their values rise or fall based on their success. Prices soar with a blockbuster opening at the box office and plummet with a bomb no one went to see.” For those who have never played, the game is as a complicated or as easy as you want to make it (much like the real stock market).

Now, I know several of you already have HSX accounts. To keep things fair, in order to participate in the league you’ll need to start up a new account. Here’s what you need to do to join the league:

1. Go to www.hsx.com and start up a new account.

2. You can use any username you want, although if everybody used the format “DVDTalk_[DVDTalk Username]” it would make things easier to track. For example, if my DVDTalk username was "Stockbroker" my account for the league will be DVDTalk_Stockbroker.

When signing up, put down DVDTalk_DRG in the "Did a friend refer you?" column. Feel free to take advantage of any of the special offers and freebies offered at this time as well.

3. After you sign up, go to “Account Information” and set your “Screen Name” to be exactly the same as your screen name here at DVDTalk. This will help avoid confusion.

4. Come back here and post your HSX user name. You need to have a new account, or I won’t add you to the league.

5. Entry into the league is always open...we welcome newcomers!

Remember, new players: add this week's "Bottom Feeder" (DVDTalk_DRG) as your referral when signing up!

Well, it sucks to be me. At one point I was #1. Last week I was #3. Now I'm out of the Top 10 altogether.

However, I assure y'all: THE GROUCH WILL RISE AGAIN!

Nice to be back in the top 10!

Also nice to see my wife just behind me. Just wish I bought more Shrek. All I had was the call, but I guess it was enough.

I'm getting sick of just waiting. I think I'm going to take a more active approach in the upcoming weeks.

That is what I have done, and it has paid off for me. Without one misstep (I lost well over one million dollars on New York Minute), I could have been close to ten million by now, IMO.

yeah, sitting on stocks is a waste. take an active role in shopping and getting out while hot or before you lose to much. the warrents are easy cash if you play them right. the daily IPO's are nice for quick cash if they are decent names.

Of course I figure until I get better I will take a more slow approach. I will not make a huge amount daytrading since I do not have access to the internet when I am at work so I need to sit for longer periods on stocks.

I think shouting at the screen while your stocks move up and down is far more fun

I beg to differ. I have been sitting on guite a few stocks that have made guite a chunk of cash and I hardly ever even touch the IPO's (except for a few like POTC3) and I am still in the top ten. I just pay attention to when stocks adjust and delist. Daytrading is just too time consuming IMHO

Day trading may be a little consuming, but the once the warrents kicked in it tossed me from position 20 to the middle of the top 10. it's great if you find a property that is low and will be worth major cash down the line, But you are pretty much playing it by chance if you are going to sit on it.

the IPO's typically gain a point or two when restart kicks in if you move fast you can get a quick 50k out of it. Decent cash Not to mention getting front page does attract attention to it.

The funny thing is that I doubt it will every make that much money. Of course this does not matter if people keep buying the stock.

Exactly - sometimes its more about perception than the actual product. The trick now is when to bail and short the stock.

The more news that comes out about it the higher it goes. of course it's going to drop like a rock when the theater count comes in, but I'm sure it will go up even more once the distributor is locked in. industry news feeds that price. Just have to know when to get out of it and short it.

I knew I should have sold off my FH911 shares last night I knew it. I just lost well over $100k between 11 pm and this morning.

If you haven't sold it or shorted it - do so now!!!

It does seem to be down. I'll blame my poor performance on trades that I was planning to do during this time.

Yep. I was going to shot to number 1 due to some great insight and wonderful trading now I will end up near the bottom all due to this outage
