What is the Hollywood Stock Exchange?
From the website: “Buy shares of your favorite actors and their new movies. Watch their values rise or fall based on their success. Prices soar with a blockbuster opening at the box office and plummet with a bomb no one went to see.” For those who have never played, the game is as a complicated or as easy as you want to make it (much like the real stock market).
Now, I know several of you already have HSX accounts. To keep things fair, in order to participate in the league you’ll need to start up a new account. Here’s what you need to do to join the league:
1. Go to www.hsx.com and start up a new account.
2. You can use any username you want, although if everybody used the format “DVDTalk_[DVDTalk Username]” it would make things easier to track. For example, if my DVDTalk username was "Stockbroker" my account for the league will be DVDTalk_Stockbroker.
3. When signing up, put down DVDTalk_vism in the "Did a friend refer you?" column. Feel free to take advantage of any of the special offers and freebies offered at this time as well.
4. After you sign up, go to “Account Information” and set your “Screen Name” to be exactly the same as your screen name here at DVDTalk. This will help avoid confusion.
5. Come back here and post your HSX user name. You need to have a new account, or I won’t add you to the league.
6. Entry into the league is always open...we welcome newcomers!
Remember, new players: add today's "Bottom Feeder" ( DVDTalk_vism) as your referral when signing up!

On sale today, Put/Calls on Day After tomorrow (70 million opening)
after troy and helsing, is that even possible.
Raising hellen and soul plane.

I concur. No one will bet that Day After tomorrow will ever come close to 70 million if two of the other summer flicks didn't do nearly as much.

Keep in mind, though, the TOMOR options are 4-day options -- Friday through Monday. It's Memorial Day Weekend.
The market currently has TOMOR priced for a $64 million opening weekend, which seems a little low for a 3-day weekend. I expect it will go up next week when everyone's Shrek2 money is freed up.

I think you're underestimating the ability of people to compartmentalize the realities of September 11 from the awes0me kewl special effects. I guess we'll find out in a week and a half.Originally posted by Groucho

It's just that I remember when ID4 came out everybody was amped about seeing national monuments getting blown to smithereens. I think that brought a lot of people into that movie. I just don't forsee the same excitement in today's world.
Now, if Jake Glywhatever was trapped in PARIS? Yeah, that would be cool.

Shrek should be great, but the price was to rich for my blood to keep money tied up in there for five days.
I've been on a rocky few days. Can't get on a short of a climb quick enough.

Yeah last night I woke up and since my computer was on doing UD I decded to look and I was up a bunch. I should have sold the big hits and banked the money. Instead I went to bed and was looking forward to seeing even more money. I had lost almost all of it over the night Originally posted by Jackskeleton

I guess that teaches me.
I actually am not sure Shrek 2 will do the huge numbers over the 4 weeks although it might do well the first weekend.

the first weekend should be nice. I think it will make it's warrent price easy.

I would not be surprised at all to see Day After Tomorrow hit the strike price. If fact, I am expecting it. Once I get some cash free, I am going to pick up some calls and some stock.

Funny, I didn't really associate the events of 9/11 affecting Day After Tomorrow. I was more taking into account that people wouldn't be home on a 4 day weekend. But with the soaring gas prices, I'm not sure what to think. Are people going to stay home? Originally posted by JasonF

I always considered July 4th as more of a time that families stay home instead of going out on the road.

4 day weekends do magical things to strike prices.
TDAT should do quite well over Memorial Day Weekend.
Shrek, well, Shrek is Shrek. It's review proof, not that reviews have been bad or anything. but it should do $65 or more.
