The movie started here today. I have never laughed so hard outloud at the movies. Napoleon is my hero. Pedro is the man and Kip is a pimp. I really liked this movie. It wasnt better then Eternal Sunshine but it was a hell of a lot better then Anchorman, Open water and The Village. Screw Bush, Napoleon 4 President!!

i finally had the chance to see this today. i was very disappointed. it did have its moments but it was nowhere near as funny as i had been led to believe. maybe i need to see it again later on. i thought that garden state was much better.

"I'm told the movie was greeted at Sundance with lots of laughter, but then Sundance audiences are concerned with being cool, and to sit through this film in depressed silence would not be cool, however urgently it might be appropriate. |
I laughed out loud quite a bit to this movie, as did much of my friends and both audiences I saw it with. I am not concerned with being cool, I just found it very funny. People did laugh at different things though, and I think that that is very cool.
It really is a movie that you look back on and find the stuff even funnier. I'm still quoting the movie, laughing about it, and highly anticipating the DVD. It just really was a film up my alley. |
I sat through this entire movie with a smile on my face (I am just not a laugh out loud type of guy). Jon Heder made this movie great. The beauty of this film was all of the little things that reminded you of high school and all the dorks (and the stupid in-crowd who 20 years later are likely 30 pounds overweight in nowhere jobs).
The biggest compliment that I can give this film is that I watched the deleted scenes. While I used to always do that, lately I have had no interest in them so the fact that I watched them shows that I wanted more of this so-to-be classic film. |
I just watched this last night. I liked it, but I could see why a lot of people wouldn't. I wouldn't even think of having my wife watch this - she'd hate it.
BTW, I actually shot Diet Coke out my nose when Kip backed the van over the indestructible plasticware rotfl. |
BTW: My guess is that everyone that didn't like this movie were really dorks themselves just like Napoleon. His dorkiness is lost on you b/c you lead a similar life. I can see the quotes now. "Where's the joke in him having tons of skills? So what if he talked to hot chicks for hours on-line? I'm great with the bowstaff myself, that's not funny. Making fun of dorks is not cool."
See, all the signs point to those not likely the film being dorks. j/k;) |
Just rented this one tonight -- loved the scene where the kid meets his internet girlfriend.

I didn't really "get" it, and it felt thrown together and disjointed, but I did laugh quite a few times. My wife wasn't amused, but if you know any disgruntled teenagers or were one yourself, you will at least get the character. Many funny lines, and all the random outbursts: "Because my uncle is an IDIOT"
"You have to get your stuff out of my locker because I don't have room for my numb-chucks" "I am the best I know at drawing" All the lines about skills.... Kip and his sweet babes...."Grandma still pays" |
K, bye.
|
This is the only movie I've consistently quoted all year. "Like anyone could even know that Napoleon." "Dammit Napoleon you know we can't afford the funpack." "Sweet" "Gosh", the list goes on and on.
|
My favorite lines were from the milk tasting: "The defect in this one is bleach." and "This one tastes like the cow got into an onion patch." So completely deadpan, and the judges reactions behind him were priceless, "That's correct."

This DVD was sold out all over town, (Best Buy, Target, etc.) Not sure if they didn't order very many or it was just in that huge of a demand.
|
I ended up buying this last night because the Netflix rental wait was really long. I had heard some great things about it from some close friends. There were a few funny scenes but overall it wasn't a great movie. Some reviewer on Amazon said it was the funniest movie since Office Space. This film can't even come close to touching Office Space.
I'm sure I'll watch it again later on but I was expecting more. |
If anyone is interested in selling their unwanted copy, you can email me ;).
|
Saw it on Christmas day and I think it was one of the funniest movies I've seen in years.
|
great fun, one to watch over and over
|
"I love technology/ But not more than you you see/ But I still love technology/Always and Forever" rotfl
|
" We met in a chat room, now our love can truely bloom "
|
I rented/watched it this weekend....excellent film. My #2 of 2004.
Went to Tower to purchase.....all sold out :( but will be receiving more this week :) |
I too loved the movie. I loved it when his uncle said, "how much do you want to bet I can throw this football over those mountains?"
|
I hated it. While I may have smiled a few times, I really couldn't get into it. Just too dead pan for me.
And no, I wasn't a dork in High School. ;) |
Insipidally stupid, boring, low-brow, synapses killing humor.
