Why do people leave before the credits are over? Do you?

it was funny when i saw dawn of the dead. as soon as the credits started, people started to get out, but as soon as the chick takes her top off, every body stopped what they were doing and watched in the isles.

I'm usually the very last person to leave the theatre. Anybody who goes to a movie with me inevitably either sits with me or has to wait patiently in the lobby until I come out.
I always sit through the end credits since (next to the main credits) it's one of the few places in the film where you can hear the composer's music without any competing dialogue or sound f/x. It's always nice to hear good music on a kick-ass sound system, something I can't necessarily replicate at home. And I actually do read most of the credits while I'm sitting there.
Besides, if I'm paying exuberent prices to see a film, I intend on getting my money's worth.

For me, it depends on the movie and how much I enjoyed it.
For instance - when I saw Van Helsing, I practically ran out of the place when the credits started rolling.

By now, if you go through various forums you can find out if something will have a snippet at the end, but for me if there are no obvious clips or bloopers starting once the credits roll Im out. As for paying respect to those involved, I paid my $10 instead of downloading or buying a bootleg, there's my support.

I will never understand why some people take credits so seriously, is it some kind of respect thing (which would be stupid)? the only times I stay for the credits are when there are outtakes, an epilogue, or if I want to know who played a particular character, or if I want to know about a song, but I usually save that for the dvd, because I probably won't care unless it's a good enough movie that I would end up buying it on dvd

I try to stay every time. It gets tough sometimes. The damn theatre turns all the lights on & all the workers come in to start cleaning as soon as the credits start rolling. They're basically telling you to get the f out.
I actually enjoy hearing the music. Reading the names of the actors & crew. Seeing who wrote & performed the songs. Everything. I just enjoy it.
And one (of the many things) that piss me off while watching a movie is when people start getting up & leaving as soon the major arc of the story is resolved and there's still a few minutes before the ending. I see this very often and I just don't understand why they're there. They come in 5 minutes late & leave 5 minutes early. WUWT?

I usually try to stick it out through the credits and here are my reasons, in no particular order....
1. checking for song performances like the originator of this thread.
2. If there are outtakes, I wanna see em
3. so im not tripping up over people trying to get out with the rest of the herd.
4. getting stuck in a long ass line waiting at the traffic light to the only exit of the complex.
5. sometimes the end credits music is very captivating
6. any little tidbits that get thrown in at the end (listen to the very end of the credits music of the Phantom Menace - nice touch).
And now that I dont go out to the movies anymoer and enjoy them in my very very big TV and Home Theater, I can avoid many of the pitfalls of movie-going.

Imdb often has a "heads up" in the movie's trivia section.

I honestly don't understand why this question would be asked. The movie is over...why would we stay? Sure, there might be a quick clip at the end of the credits, but it's always a throwaway and really unessential to the plot.
And quite frankly...I don't like watching lists and lists of names. That whole show respect for people who made the credits...screw that. The money I paid at the box office is me paying my respect. Back in the old days I wouldn't mind staying through the credits...when they were 2 screens long. But now with 10 minute credit scrolls telling us who got the coffee for the 4th assistant to the PA to the grip, well, basically, stuff I don't need to know.
If there is stuff in the credits...either they start right away (ala Dawn of the Dead) or I'll see it on DVD.

"Why do people leave before the credits are over? Do you?"
Because I don't find it terribly exiciting to read a bunch of names. Unless I know something is to be expected at the end of the credits or the credits have something going on while the names roll (i.e. School of Rock), I'm not going to watch them. Why waste my time?

Leave at the start of the credits (if they are on blackscreen). I will stay if there is action, of course.
Ones that come to mind are Ferris Bueller and Grumpy Old Men. Other then that, I will wait for the DVD to see all of the credits.
Also, I think I see maybe 3 movies a year in the theatre, so I see many more credits on DVD anyway.
