They probably spent the entire budget on those cat puppet suits and the 'bullet' time and thought Freddie and Matt would get in the 'cool' teen viewers it so desperately needed. Thought wrong ass clowns.

That's funny - I thought of this movie tonight after seeing Van Helsing (because VH was worse than Wing Commander)... but yeah, that's true that the cast was petty weak.

Even Wing Commander 4: The Price of Freedom game had a bigger cast. I know the movie wanted to start at the beginning of Chris Blair's career, but they definately took the wrong path. If only they would used the cast from the game and either filled in some part of the game's story or came up with a new enemy to fight. The cast from the games were great, especially Tom Wilson as Maniac. Now I'm gonna have to load those games back up...

Really? I was looking forward to VH. And I consider Wing Commander THE WORST MOVIE of all time.

I don't know MC - I can't say for sure, but it seems like we tend to agree on films I think. I think Wing Commander is one of the worst movies ever and I use it and Cutthroat Island to convey just how bad a movie is - like "it sucked, but not quite as bad as Wing Commander" or "Jesus, that was almost as bad as Cutthroat Island." Now I have a new movie to compare bad movies to - Van Helsing. It was indeed worse than Wing Commander... at least the Cat Mannequins and 40s fighter planes in space provided comic relief.

Very interesting. We do seem to have similar tastes. I have never seen Cutthroat Island though. My other movie I use to compare is Johnny Mneumonic.

I don't usually heed to reviews, but when 99% of them are one way it is kind of hard to ignore. I can wait for video. My wife on the other hand has been dying to see it.

At least Kate is there for eye candy, right?

Too bad the movies were like the games. It would have kicked much more ass if it was.

She's there, but she doesn't really set the screen on fire or anything. I mean, I think she's hot and stuff, but in this she's just kinda blah.

And Johnny Mneumonic sucked donkey balls, but I wanted to like it so much cuz it was Henry Rollins's second major movie so I never put it in my short list of worst movies ever.

yeah, WC wasn't that good, but I won't call it horrible. the rapiers were weak though, even the crappy hornet from the games looked better

mikehunt,

I opened this thread thinking you were gonna say that you finally realized that Mark Hamill is in the movie. Well, his voice, anyway.

I enjoyed this movie. It's a guilty pleasure for me. What I don't get is why didn't they release the film uncut. I know they cut it because the Kilrathi looked crappy but the cuts caused the movie to lose any semplance to an ending and a lot of the plot was cut. Including the revelation of two traitors and the death of captain Sansky (he just gets knocked in the head and then disappears altogether with not so much as a passing mention in the finished cut of the film).

I actually wish they had made enough money for a sequel but with Mark Hamill as the lead. Freddy Prinze Jr. wasn't too bad in this one but to mee Blair is Hamill.

Yeah, that was him.
Spoiler:
Merlin
Originally he was meant to be the comic relief/sidekick of sorts for Blair but Hamill's role was cut back because it was decided that that was already Mathew Lillard's role in the movie.
