The more interesting question is how much it'll drop in it's second week - apparantly it's supposed to be a major piece of crap, so accordingly, it should drop like a rock. I hope it won't make back it's money, so the execs could understand that they need better scripts.

Doesn't Troy come out the next week? I think Troy would take a massive chunk out of Van Helsing's opening take. Never the less, Van Helsing oughta be a 100+ mil movie.

I'm seeing a pre-screening on Thursday Night so it won't get my money. I guessed about $35 million.

It's the summer box office season so it's already a given that the next weeks big opener will blow the crap out of last weeks news. Thats what this season is all about. The latest and biggest films opening and those watching. Last weeks release is yesterdays news and it of course takes a big drop

I don't see how people can honestly say under 50 million. This is the opening salvo of the summer movie season, and it always starts with a bang. Regardless of movie quality people will turn out in droves....the Internet buzz has pretty much turned against this movie, but the majority of film goers don't follow internet buzz, so they're still jacked to see the movie.

If this movie doesn't open to at least 55 million, I will proudly proclaim in my sig that I am a movie idiot.

I think that unless Van Helsing opens with over $65 to $70 million, everyone will be calling it a failure.

It will most likely drop, but the better scripts thing ain't gonna happen as whatever replaces it will most likely be another piece of crap.

While I am sure Troy will outdo it the second weekend, the R rating might make it less competition than one would expect. While I am glad it went with the R rating, having that rating attached to a $200 million film in the summertime with a family oriented flick (Shrek 2) following it the next week is a stupid idea.

There was a show on the Sci-fi channel hyping this movie up with a profile of the old universal monster movies. Even then this looked craptastic. 58 million.

Over $50 mil for sure, it has to double at least what Mean Girls did, cmon! And I agree, the majority of the public either dont know or give a rat's ass what some Internet geek fanboys with grudges say about a movie.

Even funnier is the fact that New York Minute BOMBED on Friday night. It made about 2.1 million on Friday night.

But The Mummy Returns made $430 million worldwide ($202 million US). Even though people thought it was worse than The Mummy it still made more money.

I think the studio would be happy if Van Helsing was just as terrible.

It did 19.7M on Friday... so maybe 55-60M or so for the weekend. Which isn't bad at all.
