The cinematography of "The Insider"
This movie is ingeniously photographed. Period.
Every frame is painted to perfection, lit to beauty, composed for reality...
No, really, this movie is just about the most beautifully shot film in history.
The lighting is just....stunning.
Does anyone else feel the same way?
The insider - 2 thumbs up.

Well I really liked the style in the beginning of the movie when the guy's in the jungle. It's a Michael Mann film it's got to be beautiful! Also, check out Inarritu's BMW film it reminded of the beginning of The Insider.

That was Dante Spinotti, right? He's one of the best DPs working, IMO.

I agree.
This was my pick for Best Cinematography at the 2000 Oscars.
All props to Conrad L. Hall and may he rest in peace, but The Insider kills American Beauty based on photography.

I couldn't agree more. The Insider is probably one of the most underrated films of recent memory; an absolute masterpiece. Just the lighting in itself really evokes the sort of suburban paranoia and isolation that the movie hinges upon. Absolutely blown away by this the first time I saw it in theaters.
(I only wish the DVD had a feature or two on the subject...)

I too feel that the cinematography of The Insider is simply brilliant. I was blown away when I first saw this in theatres. I haven't watched the dvd in a while, maybe I'll do that over the weekend.

I too agree with all of the comments made thus far. The Insider is one of my favorite films ever. Extremely under-rated. Russell Crowe deserved the Oscar WAY more for this than for Gladiator. (And this is coming from a Gladiator fan!) This film is what made me a Michael Mann fan. It is incredibly well-photographed, and what I think of when I think of great cinematography. I only wish all movies were done this well.
