I agree.. however, as a fan of the film haliedoeshebron points out that the director's cut ruins the movie. I'm simply stating that by DVDTalk Logic, which states that any "uncut," "unrated," "extended," or "director's cut" version of a film is vastly superior and that the original film was stomped upon by horrifying censorship*, many people will place this version as vastly superior without a fair comparison.

*George Lucas is excluded from this logic.

There seems to be some pessimism about the DC here. Does it merely incorporate the deleted scenes? Does it oversimplify the story? What's the scoop? (NO I CAN'T WAIT!)

I heard in an interview from the director they do incorporate many of the deleted scenes as well as footage that hasn't been seen in any form.

I'd strongly recommend a rental for this one.

Me to... but the more I think about it and read articles about it... the more I want to see it again and again and again.

The film kicks into it's limited release (top markets) starting 7/23/04.

Vegas BETTER get the director's cut. We got the theatrical cut for a week, we should at least get the director's cut for a week too.

The new theater downtown shows only independent and foreign films. I got a good feeling this will make an appearance

I just watched the original tonight (for a second time) - still didn't like it all that much. There was alot that I did like, but there was enough here to dislike that I can say I didn't like it. I thought it was too ambiguous about its 'message'. I like movies that leave it up to the audience to discuss, but this one left too much and didn't seem to really make a point or at least stand on one side of the fence or the other. Does the DC clear things up a bit WRT the filmmaker's position on things? (I'm trying to be ambiguous so I don't spoil anything for others).

Next Friday (7/23) Donnie Darko is being re-released at two NYC theaters in what is being described as the "director's cut". It's had midnite showings, but not a regular engagement like this.

There's an ad for it appearing in the Arts & Leisure section of Sunday's NY Times, along with a nice article chronicling its DVD success as a cult hit.

It will be nice to see this on a big screen!
