Friday Box Office estimates
Friday Box Office Estimates:
1) Kill Bill Vol. II - 10.7 / 10.7
2) The Punisher - 5.2 / 5.2
3) Johnson Family Vacation - 1.7 / 16.7
4) Hellboy - 1.5 / 46.1
5) Home on the Range - 1.5 / 33.8
6) Walking Tall - 1.4 / 33.4
7) Ella Enchanted - 1.3 / 10.7
8 ) Scooby-Doo 2 - 1.3 / 68.4
9) The Alamo - 1.3 / 13.5
10) The Whole Ten Yards - 1.2 / 10.1
11) The Prince and Me - 1.2 / 22.1
12) The Passion of the Christ - 1.2 / 357.9
13) Connie and Carla - 1.1 / 1.1
Kill Bill 2 Will make substantially more than KB1, with a take in the $30 mil area. Punisher did OK, probably $13-15 mil. Bomb city for Alamo. Passion drop looks bad compared to last week, but taking into account last week's freakish Easter total, it's dropping at it's regular 30-35%. Prety crappy for the other holdovers with probably 50%+ declines.

Nice to see Kill Bill make $10 million on Friday. If The Punisher opened up on another weekend, it might've been #1. Why put two revenge flicks out the same weekend?
This weekend will be close for everything 3 - 13. Too bad The Girl Next Door dropped to #14 and will be lucky to make $3 million this weekend.

Kill Bill was probably very front loaded and will likely see a dip today, so I Say about $24m this weekend (that said, I did see it twice already).. Punisher did $5? Yikes. More than I expected hehe.
The rest seems to be on an even playing field.

It seems the studios want to divide their audience and lose dollars in the process.

Has no one ever noticed that studios often foster similar properties and release them all simultaneously? Look at Deep Impact and Armageddon, or Volcano and Dante's Peak.
It's like a pissing match between the studios. Who can make the better/higher grossing revenge/disaster/etc. flick. Stuff like that.

Deep Impact = May 1998.
Armageddon = July 1998.
Dante's Peak = February/March (IIRC) 1997.
Volcano = April 1997.
More like a two month in-between period.

The KBV2 date change is the real factor here. I think it was a choice on lions gate to not look like they are worried about the date. The way it would have been is three revenage pictures back to back on different weeks.

the punisher will be fine, all the QT whores were out to see KB2 on day 1 or 2... it'll trail off quick and the punisher will make enough to score a sequel. KB1 didnt do much for me, it was ok... but nothing that made me want to pay $7.50 to see part 2. I'll wait and get it cheap on DVD. The Punisher on the other hand, I'll be in theaters to see tomorow.

In case you’re all wondering about why two vigilante movies at the same time? It because Avi Arad was claiming Marvel is the next Disney ( icon characters) Well Disney took wind of it and decided to release KB2 against Punisher. Punishers date was first and then KB2 followed. These studios are so stupid to release movies such as these the same week. Talk about divide $$. Complete morons!
All well, I saw Punisher this weekend and enjoyed it. The theater was packed, but that could be because it was showing on one screen.
Back to my low carb drink...vodka! ummmmmm...

I saw Kill Bill twice tonight, and at both screenings the audiences were clearly more than "QT whores." These were people who genuinely liked Vol. 1 and couldn't wait to see what happened to those characters. The audience response was tremendous. I think Vol. 2 will have better legs than Vol. 1.

I think both Kill Bill V2 and Punisher will be down a little compared to those numbers, could be wrong though. As for the Alamo.. ouch.. I mean just.. ouch. And as expected, it seems KBv2 dropped a bit on Saturday (heavily front loaded) The Passion falling 72.4% is oddly not surprising. Big start, big finish, now it's likely done.

Well it looks like Passion of the Christ will be out of theaters soon (if it keeps that 72% drop next weekend... I'd bet money that the drop will be more of 40% next weekend through). That means I guess I'll be seeing it next weekend.
Word on mouth for both Kill Bill and The Punisher has been positive (my friends talk nothing but praise for both), so it'll be interesting to see which one of the two will have legs come next weekend with the only competition being 13 Going On 30 and Man on Fire which I predict will bomb with the very little advertising FOX is giving it. What is it? Does FOX hate Regency all of a sudden?
I predict next weekend will also be the last weekend The Girl Next Door is in theaters.
