The Terminal (Spielberg, Hanks)

Don't know anything about the movie yet, I just stumbled across this link from another MB:

Good to see Spielberg and Hanks at work again.

The Terminal

Premise: An immigrant (Hanks) fleeing the war that ravages his tiny Eastern European homeland finds himself stuck in the terminal of one of New York City's airports when the time of his landing coincides precisely with the point at which the war causes his nation of origin to no longer exist, meaning that his passport and paperwork are no longer valid. As a man without a home, he takes up residence in the terminal itself, befriending the staff of the airport, and falling in love with an airline flight attendant (Zeta-Jones)... (McBride plays a baggage carousel worker who uses his job to run a private business on the side; Tucci plays an Immigration and Naturalization Dept. representative; Nouri plays CZJ's love interest)

damn romantic drama

Rivero 12-19-03 09:30 PM

What year does this movie take place in? Which war?

MFRONE 12-19-03 09:59 PM

I think this is kind of based on true story of a guy who lived in an airport terminal for a few years.

Is that what it is? Cool. I've always wondered when someone was gonna make a movie about that guy? Funny that it stars Hanks, since you could make the analogy of it being another version of Cast Away.

The Terminal teaser (Spielberg, Hanks)

I think its looks pretty decent. CZJ is hot.

beefjerky 04-16-04 07:18 PM

You know, I wish they would've made the character Iranian like in the actual story it was based on. When I heard that this was going to be made into a movie, I thought of Ben Kingsley in the role.

PalmerJoss 04-16-04 07:48 PM

I think it looks decent enough. Charming sure, and it looks similar in tone to Catch Me If You Can, which was Spielberg's best in quite some time. Plus, I'm always willing to give Tom Hanks the benefit of the doubt.

As far as movie posters go, all I can say is...

...Boorrrring

mdc3000 04-17-04 12:55 AM

the poster is dull, but the trailer has me hooked.... Spielberg and Hanks is always gold... can't wait for this one.

wow, Chi McBride is in everything now that Boston Public was cancelled.

QuiGonJosh 04-17-04 05:05 AM

This is a Speilberg flick? I couldnt tell one bit...and why oh why did he have to put that terrible actresses Catherine Zeta Jones in this! Cant stand her...dont know if I'll even see this one...

Supreme Sean 04-17-04 07:57 AM

This movie looks wonderful. That's all I have to say about that.

What he said.

Oh and Josh, Catherine Zeta-Jones is only ONE actress. :D

Groucho 04-17-04 10:23 AM

Looks good, although it looks like it focuses too much on well-treaded Hollywood romance territory.

jough 04-20-04 04:30 PM

This looks really strange - it's a bizarre Twilight Zone fantasy (America is closed?) but Tom Hank's character seems in on the gag - the best part of the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits were the stories where WE identified with the main character, and it was the world, not the character, who was wrong.

Right man in a wrong world - like Snopes.

This looks like a wrong man in a wrong world - i.e. Zzzzzzzz....

Geofferson 04-20-04 05:17 PM

This film does seem rather odd.

Neeb 04-21-04 12:12 AM

This is based on a true story and a rather tragic one at that. Not because the man in question died... but rather because he's still alive. I hope this doesn't play as a comedy.

Playitagainsam 04-21-04 12:31 AM

Very sad!

I'm afraid a Spielberg treatment will only schtick and trivialize the subject.

Here's the story of the real guy.

Groucho 04-21-04 12:42 AM

The real guy has a message for Spielberg and company:

That jerk turned down Belgium. I don't feel bad for him. I feel bad for Belgium. "Sorry I'd rathed live on an airport bench than in your country."

jough 04-21-04 09:50 AM

Have you ever been to Belgium?

Groucho 04-21-04 09:58 AM

"Belgium: At Least We're Not France!"
