Gas Prices...on the big screen
With the high cost of gasoline reaching and all time high its interesting to see how the price of a gallon of gasoline is caught on film. Die Hard has a scene at the 1st part of the film where it shows (i think) .60cents for a gallon of regular.
Any others we can all flashback on ???

Argh...I'm trying to remember what it was that I was watching a day or two ago that actually had gas prices in it. When I saw it, I actually thought to myself, "Hmm...one doesn't see that too often."

funny you should mention that. This is something i look for on all movies, just savage hobby. I also enjoy "regular" and "unleaded" signs. You can't get leaded gas anymore can you?

Robocop would have had an interesting price in the gas station sequence. Did they show the prices there?

By the way - I've been driving since like 89 and I don't recall gas prices ever being 60 cents. I think 87 cents is the cheapest I've paid.

No more leaded gasoline. You can get 10% ethanol or MTBE blended gasoline depending on the area you live.

Hell, when I first got my license '98 here in Austin, TX I remember filling up for 62 cents a gallon and for that whole first year I drove it never reached over 88 cents. Compared to now it feels like I was in a damn time warp.

Funny you should bring this up -- I just noticed a few days ago that the opening credits to Soprano's features $.97 for gas prices. In New Jersey no less!

I've never noticed a gas price in movies, but what really bothers me (this is way off topic) is the 9/10th cent. [rant]What is the point. Nobody really keeps track of that do they? I always think of Office Space when I see that fraction of a cent. Someone somewhere is a gazillionaire because they're skimming that damn 9/10th cent. Just raise the price a full cent and drop the stupid fraction[/rant]

The film "Tender Mercies" clearly shows the gas prices of it's time (1983). I can't remember the exact prices, but when I watched it ten years after it came out I was surprised that gas was actually more expensive in '83 than it was in '93.

You can see gas prices in The Blues Brothers, but I forget what they are right now.

Jersey has very low gas taxes, and those refineries you see in the Sopranos opening credits also make a short trip to the pump. But right now, I'm paying a hefty, but all things considered nationally, 1.55 for regular at the El Cheapo gas stations.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (1991) was set five years in the future. I seem to remember a scene at a gas station showing a price in excess of $3.00 a gallon. So at least that prediction did not come true.

Those cheapo gasoline grades are the same as the name brand (Texaco, Citgo, BP Amoco, Etc...) grades so it really doesnt make a difference where you buy your gasoline.
Shell & Marathon I believe are the only 2 that are actually Shell & Marathon products.
