Any buzz about Garden State?

Garnering very positive word of mouth, I was apprehensive about "Garden State", would it deliver the goods?
I'm happy to say that amidst all the very funny scenes and cutaways (Braff was obviously paying attention while working on his TV show, Scrubs), there is enough dramatic meat in Zach's character's (Andrew Largeman) story as a guy in his mid-20s returning home to bury his mother, and what coming home means to his outlook on life based on his past.
Natalie Portman's role of Sam is not underwritten and Braff's script gives Portman plenty of room to provide us with a very quirky, but real character whose flaws actually solidify her value to Largeman in his short time home.
It's worth seeking out a nearby theater and seeing this film with an audience, the gags are very funny, and the film is poignant in speaking towards that mid-20's period of confusion that many of us (older) can identify with and look back on with genuine reflection.
I give it 3.5 stars, or a grade of B+.

Got to see this today at the indie theater in Bethesda.
I enjoyed it, though I agree with Giles when he said it struggles to find it's rhythm. I chalked it up to intended quirkiness versus opportunities with the script.
All in all, I will be giving this an A when I rate it in the other thread, but I can see where others could possibly grade it in the "B" range.
Oh yeah, everyone is right when they mention the soundtrack...it's pretty addictive.

Excellent film... I found it to be split and disortienting without pulse as if I was tranquilized on lithium...
This pulse emerge ever so softly as it reached emotional climax... 8/10 or 9/10, I have not yet decided.

I caught it this morning... first time I've been to a movie before noon since I was like 14. Anyway - I thought it was pretty good. Witty and touching. I didn't LOVE it, but I certainly liked it alot. 8/10.
I look forward to future movies from Zach.

Thought it was good when I saw it on Friday. One of those movies I went into predisposed to disliking it (after all, my indie friends were drowning me in buzz about it, blech) but it was really quite good. Braff's random sense of humor is pretty great, and the story, while nearing cliche by the end, was quite good. Portman's acting was also pretty great.

Saw this last night. I give it 2.5 stars out of 4.
It was a quirky movie with some great comedic moments. Gotta love the cameo by Method Man.
Portman was good & adorable in it. Maybe it was just me but when she jumped into the pool I could've swore that she wasn't wearin' any panties.
Yes, the ending was very cliche-ish.

I saw it yesterday and it totally lived up to my hype. I'm going to have to drive an hour and a half on Thursday to see it again with a different friend.
Great movie. GREAT. 2nd best movie of this year (Napoleon Dynamite being no. 1).

My wife and I saw some Desert Storm trading cards at the flea market on Sunday.....we both had a good laugh, and thought about buying some just for the novelty of it.....but we didn't.

I snuck into the flick after the dreadful Open Water and I enjoyed it a lot. One of the better films of the year and the film had an AMAZING soundtrack. I cannot wait to see this film again.

Rarely does something live up to all the buzz over the past several months, but Garden State definitely delivers.
Natalie Portman was actually good in this, and Zach Braff really does have a genuine filmmaker's eye, as one critic put it.
It's all the little things you notice that are so funny in the movie.
I'm not sure I'll ever almost get choked up over a dead animal in a movie again either.
BIG THUMBS UP
