My Weekend Projections:
1. Hellboy - $25 million.
2. Walking Tall - $15 million.
3. Home On The Range - $14 million.
- I believe it'll be a close call between Walking Tall and Home on the Range. Home on the Range might have a huge increase on Saturday and Sunday as it's a children's film while Walking Tall might have a slight increase on Saturday and a decrease on Sunday.
4. Scooby Doo 2 - $10 million.
5. The Prince and Me - $9 million.
6. The Passion of the Christ - $8 million.
- Another close call here. Scooby Doo 2 and The Prince and Me are too tought to decide on how they will do on Saturday and Sunday. Both films have had very negative reviews, but will the families come or will the box office gross decline throughout the weekend? Also, every Saturday so far, The Passion of the Christ's gross has doubled from that of Friday's (with the exception of last week's). While it made $12 million last weekend, I only see a brief decline of it's gross this weekend.
7. The Ladykillers - $6 million.
8. Jersey Girl - $5 million.
9. Dawn of the Dead - $3 million.
10. Taking Lives - $3 million.
- Poor Jersey Girl and poor Dawn of the Dead. Too bad Taking Lives is still making money.
I'm not shocked that there will be a lot of close calls this weekend. Four wide releases were put out on Friday along with numerous indepedent films (The United States of Leland).
Next week, it gets worse with five wide releases (The Girl Next Door, The Alamo, Johnson Family Vacation, Ella Enchanted, and The Whole Ten Yards) and numerous other indepedent releases. Oh yeah, it's also a religious weekend. Mel Gibson might see more people going to his film, if they're not too busy going to see other films.

god damn, the movies are too crowded now. i still gotta get off my ass and see HIDELGO, STARSKY AND HUTCH, LADYKILLERS, DOGVILLE, TAKING LIVES and SECRET WINDOW.
ahhhhh. i do hope Jersey Girl stays afloat. its a wonderful movie. would be a shamed if it drowned in all the other films being thrown out in theaters.
also suprised at how far DOTD has fallen. I thought it was a blast. Hey, i might even see it again.

That is pretty good but I was really hoping that Hellboy would have suprised everyone with about a $40 million for the weekend... Maybe word of mouth will keep it afloat for awhile...
Very cool character and would love to see more. I guess if Resident Evil gets a part 2, then maybe Sony will be happy with about $70 million for this to make part 2 also...

So it was Revolution that paid all the production costs?

Anger Management, xXx, um.. that's the only 2 i can think of off the top of my head... have been a co-production.
Gigli, Hollywood Homicide, Daddy Day Care, Hellboy... Revolution picked up the production costs.

What about Punch-Drunk Love? Who picked up the cost for that one, especially since it was a co-production between Revolution, New Line, and Sony?

New Line was brought in because it was used to fulfill one of Sandlers films he owed to them and they probably got international distribution rights. Sony got domestic and Revolution picked up the tab.

Glad to see Hellboy getting some cash. I would look for a major surge from Home on the Range and Scooby Doo today.
FWIW, I went to a 4:00 PM show of Hellboy and it was close to packed, which surprised me.

Poor Disney 2D animation. A $45 mil. gross isnt gonna change any minds.
Also why is everyone feeling so sorry for DotD? It made back its budget on the opening weekend.

I don't understand. If the studio is picking up the tab...what's the point of the producer's who sometimes 'fight with the studio'? What's the point of the producer at all?
I've talked to a few producers, and they told me that a lot of money raised for movies is usually almost always raised by foreign individuals who are dumb enough to give them their money as an investment.
