What's The Big Deal With Greedo Shooting First?
Call me a semi-fan of the Star Wars Saga, and all I see, everytime Star Wars in mentioned is this thing with Greedo shooting first.
Whats the problem? Surely they're Lucas' movies to do what he wants? Is there some massive plot hole left by him shooting first?

the "fanboys" complain that it makes Han seem weak and a sissy. in the original movie, he just shot greedo, and also greedo shooting first didn't look realistic anyway.

It makes Greedo an extremely bad shot for a bounty hunter.

Screw the Greedo thing; the change I hate the most about the SEs is the horrid CGI song-and-dance sequence they added to ROTJ. For some reason this rarely gets mentioned in all the Star Wars SE bashing threads.

It's symbolic of everything that is wrong with the Special Editions.

And also it makes Greedo a horrible shot. It just looks silly, even if you ignore the "softness" factor.

Does this really have to turn into a 'Screw Lucas' thread? I mean, without him, there's no movies period. Then you'd be missing out on something that clearly means a lot to you.
And I don't think, using any type of rational judgement, that you can accuse George Lucas of changing these movies to make more money... he's a film-maker, and he wants the films to be as good as they can. Is anyone going to chastise Peter Jackson if he updates the first LOTR to better animate the little-seen Gollum?

If you're going to constantly change and improve on an original film, why bother to release it in the first place?
Why are fans so pissy? Because they paid money to see the original in theaters, to buy the video, to buy the laser disc, to pay for the re-issue SE movies, to buy the re-issue vhs, the special edition vhs, the import SE laser discs, etc etc etc.
****ing be done with it instead of milking the cash cow dry. It's not whole milk anymore, now it's non-fat. Very diferent from the original.

I don't mind the change, but I must admit, I think it probably could have been implemented better.

First of all we're talking about the "Jedi Rocks" musical number in Jaba's Palace. You seem to be talking about the old song that was sung at the conclusion of the film. This song did not contain the words "Celebrate The Lord".
It's like you're trying to invent your own urban legend.

That's the only change in the SE's that bothers me.
As others said, it changes Hans whole character development. Before he shot first, as in the beginning of the trilogy he's just a ruthless bounty hunter that only cares about himself. The change takes away from this edge, and lessens his development.
On top of that, it just looks plain stupid. No one it going to miss from the other side of a table, especially not a big time bounty hunter who would have to be skilled with weaponary.

A big fat "it doesnt change anything" for me. Its a tiny detail that most people would overlook. I can see how die hard fans would be angry, but outside of those fans i dont think anyone would really give the change a second glance about it actually affecting how Han's character develops.
