The East shows its rich visual history and art again in cinema...but is the story worthwhile? Anyone aware of this film? I don't visit AICN much anymore, they talking about it there?

That was amazing

I would love to see it.

Geezus! There are some kick ass artsy fartsy movies coming out over there. Did you see the GOD + DIVA trailer? It looks like Stargate on ACID.

I added this page to my Favorites. All you have to do it mouse over the link and at the bottom of IE it shows what it says in English.

yeah it is... isn't it? It's from a Japanese film company and is being released in Japan. The trailer looks like it has caucasian actors in it, but it was so short I couldn't tell much about it. Looks really cool though - http://www.god-diva.jp/#

So it seems the craze in Japan are live action adaptations of their anime.

That's what Casshern is too, to a degree:

I wouldn't say it is a "craze". They have been doing it for a long time. Craze implies "fad", atleast to me.

Of course you could just say that they are into making live action adaptations of their manga, since a fair number of anime titles began as manga. Films like the Tomie series and Uzumaki were manga originally too.

Now if they could do a kick ass Kikaida movie...
I was a little disappointed with Hakaider: Mechanical Violator, it had so much potential with my all time favorite Kikaida nemesis.

I know it's been done in the past, but I think now with the advances in digital filmmaking the activity is just exploding. I mean, Casshern made for $6 freakin' million?!

What are we doing wrong over here?!!

Our comic books aren't nearly as interesting or good (IMO) here, so that screws up our comic book movies. Though, Hellboy looks promising and there have been others in the past (Ghost World, Batman, etc.).

I believe he meant in regards to the budgeting...Casshern made for 6 mil, in comparison to our flicks that look like that ringing in at like 150 mil.

I'll judge it all when the movie hits, all the money shots could be in the trailer, and quick cuts isnt the best way to judge f/x.

I knew that the visual style for this movie looked familiar, but I couldn't place my finger on it. Turns out it's directed by Kazuaki Kiriya, who did some of Hikaru Utada's videos (and is also her husband).

First time I've heard of this but that trailer kicks some serious butt!
Bummer is that it starts Golden Week (late April) and I'm leaving Japan April 1st. Oh well, I'll wait for the expensive DVD to come out and enjoy it at home.
