Do you have indoor plumbing in England?

I was not trying to be facetious, I was genuinely asking. Sorry if it rubbed you the wrong way. I have not been to a sporting event in the US where I have seen this happen.

That reminds me: I'll tell you what's really sad; when you're watching the Oscars and they do the In Memorial montage and you realize that someone you loved died during the year and this is the first you've heard about it. I had no idea Wendy Hiller died untill I saw it on the Oscars.

not only do I find it odd to clap for the deceased 'during' the Oscar montage retrospect, I find it really pretentious when actors clap for themselves

I cried the year Brandon lee died and was shown, since then no other dead actor has really made my give a toss
Clap or no clap, who gives, they all lived better lives than most of us and had opportunities we could only dream of.

that has always bugged me too but this year was way worse because of the katherine hepburn tribute! they singled her out of the montage completely and did a separate tribute to her career!
talk about a slap in the face.
i realize they also did it for bob hope but the way the handled it was different, they paid tribute to a man who helped make the oscar show what it is today and not a tribute to his career and life.

Considering that this is an award show that openly applauds pedophiles and honors Nazi propagandists, nothing really surprises me...

I was surprised when Leni Riefenstahl came up in the montage. Back when she died, I expected there to be some big hoo-ha about whether or not to include her in the tribute. Since there needs to be some big contraversy every year or so. I had completely forgotten about this when Oscar time road around.
I think the applause dipped off lightly, but at least there was no 'boo's'.

I noticed that she and Elia Kazan were grouped closed together. I was surprised that the applause-o-meter didn't fall silent for a couple of seconds.
