I've never really had much of a problem with AICN... the regulars there obviously like films, so who minds if they're passionate about it? Lunkheads, sure, but lunkheads who love film.

Now and then, a review can be fun to read. I doubt I'd trust an opinion from one, though.

The fake reviews from "Neill Cumpston" are near-expert works of satire.

AiCN used to be an ok movie news place. For some reason...they stopped getting "news". Now, all we're left with is bad reviews (no, not even early reviews like in old days! just bad reviews of RELEASED movies) and mostly garbage news that everyone else reported a week ago (or not even true at all).

I still go there occasionally to see if any news items are good (it's not hard to miss their headlines), and occasinally I read their talkbacks.

But really, I can go to darkhorizons.com, corona.bc.ca, or chud.com and get all that stuff you expect from one of these movie sights. AiCN's day is gone. And Harry's movie? Thank god he's only producing it...he is a fanboy to the extreme...and being a fanboy does not mean he has any moviemaking talent, which, I don't get the sense he does.

Anybody know what the story is?
I haven't read any of the posts in this thread b/c I assume they are all bashing the site (& rightfully so), so sorry if this is repeated.

Harry is making his first film, so that's why he hasn't posted at the site much. Adding to the bashing, Harry's reviews are some of the most worthless reviews out there. The man LOVES everything, every movie he sees according to him is the GREATEST MOVIE ever, & he is so connected to certain creators, their aren't many people out there more bias then he is.

The only reviewer & really reason going to the site is, look for Moriarty's reviews. He does a great job w/ reviews, has very good taste, & doesn't bore you to death w/ 30 paragraphs about what he did on his way to the review.

It's not just the sight design that's so annoying, it's also the horrible writing and ham-fisted hyperbole.

I like that he is passionate about movies and not just some over critical jerk like most people on the internet (like the people bashing Harry in this thread), a lot of the stuff on the site is crap (I usually skim through all the personal crap, its pretty easy to find the meat of the articles), and maybe his site could be designed a little better, but every once in a while maybe every few days there is something on there that is totally worth reading, so I will continue to go there every day

Everybody can't wait to bash his movie, but I pretty much guarantee that it will be way better than any of your first attempts

Quick! Let's call Ms Cleo she knows all like Harry I dont plan on making movies but I dont go running around crying that directors are raping my childhood, and the like. The site isnt for everyone and I dont plan on visiting it anytime soon. Will Harry's movie suck? Maybe but Im not gonna bother seeing it so it doesnt matter to me now does it?

I check the site out from time to time. Sometimes I agree with his reviews (he was dead on about Matrix Reloaded), sometimes not. The biggest gripe I have about his site are his grudges/unconditional loves. He has this absolute hatred of Paul W.S. Anderson like I've never seen (because he didn't let him on the set of Soldier or something)... yet he writes love letters about anything his buddies Guillermo Del Toro and Robert Rodriguez. Granted, Paul WS isn't considered by many to be a great filmmaker, but he lashes out at ANY news about the guy like a Holocaust survivor thrashing Hitler. Strange.

first off, harry never says anyone sucks. he treats everything as an individual entity, if he doesn't like something he tells you exactly why (which is more than we can say with "reviewers" around here). he may not like a director but he never says "they suck".

i like the site, have been visiting since 1996. he's just a fanboy who loves discussing film. how is he different than all of us here? evil because he did something about it and established a successful site?

I know he loves Rodriquez and all, but he did bash Rollberball when the director flew him up to NY for a special showing.

Again, the guy's zeal of anti-american hatred he puts forth bothers me, but it's his site and he can say whatever he wants.

I like going there because unlike alot of fanboys/film fans, he has a love for older films, as I do.

I wish him well on his movie. I thought Moriarity was doing a script as well.

I used to really enjoy AICN, it did give a different take/spin on movie reviews that I appreciated. However, I really think he has just totally sold out, I no longer trust his ability to review anything and the only use his site has for me any more is occasional movie news scoops that other sites post anyways.

-Nuff
