what will VAN HELSING be rated?

Does anyone here know if Universal is aiming for a PG-13 or an R?

My guess is PG-13. Seems like The Mummy style action

Yeah, I'd bet on a PG13, too.

Or horribly cheesy.

No doubt in my mind that Van Helsing will be a hard PG-13.

This movie wil be pg-13, all the way. Universal wants a big franchise out of this, with marketing, merchandise and spinoff animated shows. no way they want R, they want The Mummy type success but bigger.

Too bad, this would be awesome as some dark R rated fare. but, Sommers isn't really a dark filmmaker. His stuff is cartoony anyway (though I do wish this film had the gore of Deep Rising at least...I love that movie...stupidly funny!!)

Yeah, since it's being taunted as a big summer release ...PG-13 sounds about right. Obviously I haven't seen it as of yet, but I really do hope the studio grows some balls and gives it an R rating.

The film will be rated PG-13 just like The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.

Hell, Universal is releasing an animated 30 minute DVD a few weeks prior to the film's theatrical release. And I'm sure when the time comes closer to the film's premiere, we will start seeing tie-ins with fast food resturants, cereal boxes, soda cans, and so on and so on.

Universal has put in over $150 million in on this film, they're aiming for a PG-13. If you're expecting an R, you're going to get your hopes up.

I really hope this doesn't suck like the two Mummy movies.

I know it will be PG-13 in theaters and then maybe we'll get an R for DVD.

Seriously I doubt that. I really don't think this movie was ever conceived as anything but a pg-13 vehicle, and I doubt there IS an R rated cut to show.

I mean, this is a Stephen Sommers film. I enjoy the hell out of Deep Rising, but with 150 mil in this film, Universal ain't looking for a repeat of that bomb...they want more Mummy success, and that'll be pg-13 across the board.

It will absolutely without a doubt be PG-13 (I'm sure Sommers is contractually obligated to deliver this) and I can guarantee if you don't like the Mummy films, this is just going to be more of the same, but bigger...so I'm willing to bet you won't like Van Helsing.

Now, I LOVE the Mummy films. They are good old fashioned fun. No pretension, no false promises, just thrills and laughs. I'm sure Sommers will deliver the same kind of tone with Van Helsing and I can't wait....should be one hell of a ride.

MATT

(Universal is really putting everything on the line for Van Helsing and Riddick this summer....and I'm dying to see both)

Why are we making an issue out of the rating of a movie that all common sense of Hollywood indicates will be a PG-13?
