It's not about originality or fresh ideas. I can dig taking a zombie flick in a new direction, but these running zombies are not cool, not for this type of film, that supossedly respects GAR films, anyway.

The problem with these creatures, is that when they run, they run like (super fast) people would. They no longer seem like dumb, confused, powerful-in-a-hoarde, undead. Instead they look way too determined to be rotting hunks of former humans. They just look like crazy people running in some sort of halloween themed marathon. It takes you(me) out of the situation. There is no hope anymore, one zombie could easily take out a group of people. In GAR's flicks, there was always a bit of hope, always.

That's my side, think what you want.

Does anyone else find it funny that Seantn posts about a marketing website for the movie, and there hasn't been a single mention of it in any succeding post? I'll admit, the fast/slow zombie controversy is a hot button issue, but isn't this getting a little out of hand? Are we doomed to debate this for the next several years?

Anyways, has anyone joined 'The Zombie Army' or even taken a look around the website. I had trouble finding much information without signing up first. I get the impression it's going to be a lot of work for a free T-shirt or button.

Yeah, you're right. After researching more of the zombie army, it's just too much darn work unless you dedicate a week to it. I wanted a poster, or t-shirt, but i might as well just buy one. It'll be a lot easier.

I wish some zombies would run over to this thread and devour it.

I looked at the website and I think it is a pretty good marketing gimmick, but it seems like a lot of work as others have mentioned. I would say this is for "hardcore fans only", but wouldn't most hardcore fans of the original be reluctant to support a remake (especially one they haven't seen yet)?

I personally think Nazi Zombies are higher on the ranking then Running zombies.

I signed up after reading the first post -- what the hell. My contribution to the zombie army amounts to just putting a tiny link in my signature and answering a trivia question on their web site. Maybe I'll get enough clicks where I can get a free sticker. Whoopee! More likely, I'll probably get a warning from the mods. Interesting marketing strategy, though. Isn't this what formed all the hype for "Blair Witch."

BTW: I'm not sold on running zombies either. (This will be my one and only post on that subject.)

What a riot! I actually like the way that zombies were depicted in that series. I also like the (traditional) way that Romero depicted them. I guess my preference is that the zombies stay consistant within the specific franchise.

I'm also likingthe idea of the laser-beam shooting Frankenstein! Hey, if you're building a person, why not through in some extra cool stuff!!

Fresh ideas? Here's one, make something besides a re-imagining of a zombie flick. Leave the slow, shambling zombies the way they are and go make Fast3r and Furious3r: Th3 Musical if you have a pressing desire to appeal to a certain demographic.

I've been seeing Tv Spots left and right for this film. They look great.

The fundamental problems with running zombies isn't a physical one... but one of mental capabilities.

If a zombie can run and it can walk, then a there is a choice.
If there is a choice, then there is some decision that needs to be made... "does the present situation require that I run or walk?" That implies intelligence.

This elevates zombies from "pure motorized instinct" to a creature that can think and reason. Bub proves that it is possible, but only under very rigid and controlled conditions.

The other fundamental problem with running zombies is that of "balance"... (from a story perspective).

If zombies can run, then they will quickly overrun the already outnumbered humans. Humans are especially handicapped in this showdown because zombies can only be stopped by a blow to the head. Not to mention that every Human loss will result in a gain for the other side. So you end up with a film that only lasts 15 minutes, or a very contrived plot that artificially prolongs the story to 90-110 minutes.

Consider "28 Days Later", due to the high speed and mobility of the infected, encounters with them were very sparse. Nowhere near as much as any Romero film.

Romero is the Einstein of zombie films...

H = Humans... highly mobile, intelligent
z = zombies... slow moving, no/little intelligence
(C squared... the "Creep" constant... zombies far outnumber humans... a very creepy scenario.

I'm a HUGE fan of shambling zombies. I mean HUGE. I doubt you would find any bigger shambling zombie fan then me.. But I have to bow down to the remake. I already seen it and LOVED IT. love love love LOVED it!

DOTD is my favourite all time horror movie - I do have a problem with zombies springing to their feet like cats and running after cars.

It's just...wrong! The fastest speed a zombie should be able to be described as moving is a shamble, not Carl Lewis in Corpse paint.

Having said all that - I will of course be watching this film
