American History X directors cut, what would it have?
most of know by now that the director didn't like the final cut mainly because edward norton added scenes to the movie. so my question, does anyone know what was different between the director's cut and the theatrical cut?

Actually, the director was FIRED from this project by New Line. Ed Norton did stay involved with the project after his firing, but he wasn't the one who got him fired, as far as I know. Norton tried to sit in on the editing process, but it made the film's editor nervous and he refused to continue editing unless Norton left.

Actually the rumors of the dvd being edited are false!
I watched the dvd awhile back & the opening sequence which was previouslly mentioned on imdb.com(since seems to have been deleted) stating that the opening sex sequence was edited & cut out the nudity is wrong. It starts the same way as it did in theaters.

I would hope that the DC would have less Ed Norton and more Ed Furlong. That was the only fault I saw in the movie. The whole thing was about Ed Furlongs character but the movie was pretty much one big flashback of Ed Nortons life.

I rented the vhs tape (I had to, the dvd was out), there is some female nudity in the sex scene, and there was a "Norton" shot that might have been cropped on the widescreen version.

Well then it must be a case of matted vs unmatted, not 'censorship'
Since some claim the sex scene at the begining has 'no' nudity at all on the dvd. Yet the version I saw clearly showed some breasts & appeared the same as the 'fullframe' version I caught on cable years ago.

oh and was the movie shot in 2:35 or 1:85? it didn't look unmatted, it looked like it would have been 2:35, but the box says that the dvd is 1:85.

The FF presentation even if it were mostly unmatted may have been cropped/zoomed in in some shots.

Umm I think it was shot using standard everyday professional film cameras. HD or not would not make a difference in the matting vs unmatted issue. Plenty of films have been shot open matte without being HD.

From: The War Room
Kaye turned in a final cut that was around 90 minutes. Nearly everyone who saw it said it was slick, empty and pointless. Then he started hemming and hawing about the cut and wanting to recut it.
At one point, he tried to have testimonials from real life skinheads, speaking directly to the camera, inserted. New Line got sick of messing with the goofus and sent him packing.
