The last chick flick I watched was The Bachelor when it came out on tape. I was trying to show this chick I was the sensitive type. The worst movie I have ever watched along with Blair Witch Project and The Jackal.

Great flick. I never wanted to see it until bought it in a $20 2-pack with The Fast and the Furious. I was gonna sell it to my mom for $10 (I was really hard up for cash at the time and getting The Fast and the Furious for $10 bucks seemed like a sweet deal). Anyhoo, before she could pay me she insisted that I watch it and I loved it so much I asked her if it was okay that I keep it. She was totally cool with that.

A friend of mine convinced me to watch that piece of crap. I really gave it a shot but I wanted to shoot the main character so much just to make the hurting stop.

[off topic a bit] Somewhat reluctant to admit it but, Charlies angles 1 and 2 are good, and kill bill sucked, really bad. Just one of those times I go against the majority I guess. [/off topic a bit]

Joy Luck Club was an Excellent movie imo, which is as close as I come to owning a true chick flick. Only shitty part was the acting by the one chick, who plays the chinese nurse on ER. She's gotten much better now though. Actually a few of the actors weren't that good (not terrible though). Movie is still very good though.

About A Boy

Although I do not think that this is a chick flick at all, it was promoted and marketed as one. I thought it was a great movie though, and quite underrated...

Yes that was a truly fantastic film. Actually, speaking of chick flicks, I think hugh Grants movies are quite excellent...Four Weddings and, I've been a big fan of Notting Hill.

Well... if that's what you're looking for, I could suggest a couple dozen hong kong and korean films. Last time I saw a romantic comedy with a kung fu subplot? yesterday.

You guys are just scratching the surface of chick-flickdom.

I give you: Beaches

Or: The Ya Ya Sisterhood

Those two movies sear the definition of chick-flick into my brain.
How about a couple more: Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias.

I'm not looking for those kinds of films. I'm just wondering why they include sub-plots for the chicks who are dragged to guy flicks, but not sub-plots for the guys who are dragged to chick flicks.

Okay, I also enjoy chick flicks, and I fully admit it.

Here are some die hard chick flicks that I enjoy (for the record my wife, a chick, even thinks these movies are sappy).

1. Forces of Nature (Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock, need I say more?)
2. Cinema Paradiso(Italian film with English Subtitles).
3. Notting Hill (pretty much any Roberts/Grant film)
4. A Walk In the Clouds (a film that truly defines term "chick flick")
5. Beaches ("You would have to be a robot not to cry at that movie!" --Phil Hartman in Newsradio)
6. Titanic
Spoiler:
Who isn't crying when Jack dies?

7. Father of the Bride (not a romantic comedy, but still a chick flick in severy sense of the term.

Of course, this is just my opinion, and I could be wrong....

Chick Flick is a term for teenage boys who like movies with explosions. It can also be used in reference to a movie that you don't want to see or didn't like that wasn't action related.

I use the term when my g/f picks out a movie I don't want to see so for me the term is used for effect rather than meaning these days.

The top two I can think of off the top of my head that I've really enjoyed are Meet Joe Black and Bend it like Beckham.

Shakespeare in Love is great as well, but I wouldn't really call it a chick flick.

I agree I don't consider "Shakespeare in Love" a chick flick. As for "Meet Joe Black" I remember seeing this as a free preview, and I didn't know the film's running time: 178 minutes. The film just went on and on, and on - ugh!

Yeah, that's the typical opinion of Meet Joe Black. I personally enjoyed it from start to finish and have watched it several times. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Ditto. I liked it so much (as did my wife) that I took her to Mackinac Island (where it was filmed) for a special weekend. Members of the cast and crew were there, had tours of the island, etc. Very nice.

Don't diss Meet Joe Black. For about 5 seconds it's the coolest movie ever made.

Because guys want to see the girl bang the chick. Most romantic subplots in lower budget films lead to a sex scene...guys want to see a chick, see their hero bang the chick.

When you're dealing with higher profile action flicks, why the romantic subplot? I imagine to reach a wider demographic, seeing as the action flick is ridiculously expensive and needs to appeal to many people. Why doesn't it work that way with chick flicks? Well, a kung-fu subplot would cost more than the romantic comedy or whatever cost in the first place. Most chick flicks are not mega expensive flicks, so usually they're trying to appeal to a smaller demographic.

Those are the thing I can think of of why they don't do it...

Why is Cinema Paradiso considered a chick flick? It may be sappy, but sappy films aren't necessarily just for women. The film is about a man's love for cinema, and his love for one woman. And he ends up choosing the cinema, anyway. I mean, what chick would go for a movie where the guy picks an art form over the girl? That is definitely not a chick flick.

I guess I'm not exactly sure where romantic comedy ends and chick flick begins. Love Actually I saw as a romantic comedy. About A Boy certainly doesn't feel like a chick flick. I mean, if any romantic comedy, or even films whose main story is a romance were a chick flick, I could nominate several Woody Allen films.

Also, I'll probably get flamed for this, but I thought When Harry Met Sally was a poor imitation of Annie Hall that felt incredibly forced and was anything but funny.

I enjoyed "Bridget Jones Diary" but loathed "Legally Blond". I really liked the books: "Divine Secrets....." and "Tiny Alters" but the film version of "Divine Secrets...." was horrible.

I usually do not like "romantic comedies"....especially ones starring Meg Julia J. Lo. Terribly annoying actresses. During the orgasm scene in "When Harry Met Sally", I wanted to slap her across the face with a very large dildo.

Agreed. Sappy or not, I liked it. I don't consider it a "chick flick" either.

Yes. Joined up in December and picked up a few of the titles from last year.
