If Jar Jar binks dies in Ep3, would you cheer?

I would, hopefully Anakin will slice his fat lips and tongue off!

What was Lucas thinking about when he created him?

Kid appeal=lotsa toys and money

Kal-El 01-27-04 11:54 PM

He doesn't, so you can close this thread right now.

Jackskeleton 01-28-04 12:37 AM

Yup, he wont die so might as well press Edit and delete the thread. :p

what was he thinking? perhaps he wanted the creature sidekick that chewie was. Jar Jar never fit those shoes so expecting the fur ball to be back in the third. ;)

mookiemeister 01-28-04 12:40 AM

Don't kill Jar Jar. He's funny!

Squidhead 01-28-04 01:09 AM

JarJar is deep and complex character. I'm sorry that so few people understand him and how profound his existence is.

jaeufraser 01-28-04 01:22 AM

No that would be terrible. Killing Jar Jar means he has to be in the film. I say...don't even put him in the movie!

Again, I have to say, he's already in it so this discussion is utterly pointless and nothing more than another round of luca$ bashing. If I'm not mistaken, there's around 3-4 active Star Wars threads between here and the main board. Did we really need another one?

costanza 01-28-04 01:50 AM

i keep hoping that when all six movies are out and it's time to make the "improvements" (se's)on the I, II, III that he will have the gungans kidnap anikan's mom instead of the sand people. then he could kill them, he could kill all of them. :)

Flynn 01-28-04 01:53 AM

If you go back and watch the original trilogy, you'll find similar characters in Chewbacca and R2-D2 (i.e. comic relief) - the only noticeable difference? You don't know what the Hell they're saying. If Lucas had written in a comical character that didn't speak ANY sort of English, it would have been MUCH better.

No, I wouldn't cheer if Jar Jar Binks died in Episode 3 - I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that George Lucas has already said he won't die, so I don't even think this is up for debate anymore.

I think this will be a pretty cool movie if done right... we shall see.

TREX1993 01-28-04 03:05 AM

I would dance an amazing end-zone dance the likes of which has never been seen in college or NFL ball. But since I'm not planning on seeing the movie, I'll have to take someone's word for it...

That's what fanboys were saying about Episode II in the weeks leading up to it's release:

"It's darker!" "There's less of Jar Jar!" "It'll make up for Episode 1, you'll see!"

Of course, Episode 2 turned out not much better than the first one. In fact, in numerous ways, it's a worse film.

-eek- Blasphemy!

[and here I thought I was alone in thinking this...]

joeydaninja 01-28-04 04:33 AM

If the whole series dies and Lucas is still directing, I won't shed a tear. :D

QuiGonJosh 01-28-04 05:04 AM

Jar Jar won't die...and I swear some of you who are still on this whole Jar Jar rant really need to get a life and move on...

drunkrob 01-28-04 05:24 AM

Episode I and II never got made. Jar Jar Binks was never in a movie. Episode III won't get made.

Now everyone repeat until you believe, then go watch IV, V and VI and enjoy.

I really wish Lucas had catered for the original Star Wars fans rather than the current generation of youth. I find it hard to believe that the people who grew up with the first movies can think Lucas did a good job with the new trilogy.

Trigger 01-28-04 05:31 AM

Jar Jar will die eventually - it's not like he's immortal or anything, right?

Michael Corvin 01-28-04 08:03 AM

No. Because that would mean he is in the movie. He just needs to be gone.

Preach it Brotha Josh!!

candyrocket786 01-28-04 08:44 AM

Hey....what ever happened to the Midichlorians???? Do you think they'll be in episode III? ;)

Kicker_of_Elves 01-28-04 09:14 AM

Show Jar Jar some love, haters!

<3 <3 <3 <3

;)

davidlynchfan 01-28-04 09:27 AM

I <3 Jar Jar.

PixyJunket 01-28-04 09:29 AM

Jar Jar's straight gangster.

matome 01-28-04 10:34 AM

I'd cheer.

DRG 01-28-04 11:29 AM

I could give a rat's ass about Jar Jar. As long as Jake Lloyd is out of the picture and Natalie Portman doesn't talk like a robot I'm fine.

QuiGonJosh 01-28-04 11:49 AM

the reason Natalie Portman talks very monotone in Episode 1 is because she is a queen...Queen's from hundreds of years ago talked in such a manner...and she had to go through voice coaching and such to get her voice like that...

And I still dont get the Jake Lloyd bashing! He is played a very happy and content 9-year old...evidently many of you have rarely been around young children who are active and have hobbies (I work at a school)...

I never understood this either. Perhaps it's jealousy? :hscratch:

QuiGonJosh 01-28-04 12:10 PM

I guess...cause he did get to stand next to Natalie Portman for a whiles...

 That's classic.

I do wish they had kept the scene in Ep I where Anakin goes all dark side on one of the other kids.. that was cool foreshadowing.

Doughboy 01-28-04 12:26 PM

I get that, but the problem is her delivery as Padme in the first two prequels was just as lifeless and devoid of emotion. I really liked Episode II(I don't understand why so many fans have backtracked and now say it's crap), but it's hard to deny that Natalie Portman has really sucked in both films. I don't know if it's Lucas' fault or not, but the bottom line is her acting was mediocre at best.

You don't get the bashing? Go back and watch his reading of lines like "I'm a person and my name is Anakin" or "Are you an angel?" or "Mom, you said that the biggest problem in the universe is no one helps each other". I still remember watching TPM for the first time in the theater and turning to the person next to me halfway through the infamous dinner scene and commenting on how brutal this kid's acting was. I've never done that during any other screening I've been to, and I've seen plenty of lackluster performances. Lloyd was THAT bad! And again, I don't think the blame falls completely on the shoulders of the actor. Lucas was so concerned about shooting everything in one or two takes that he totally neglected his cast, particularly the younger actors.

With regards to Jar Jar, who cares? Yes, he's one of the worst conceived characters in motion picture history, but fortunately Lucas realized this(even though he'll NEVER publically admit it) and cut his screentime in Episode II down to 5 minutes. And from the limited information I've heard about the third film, he's got an even smaller role this time around. Just stick him on Alderaan at the end of the movie, and we can assume he got blowed up along with everyone else 20 years later.

QuiGonJosh 01-28-04 12:30 PM

Her delivery was fine imo...I saw nothing wrong with it in either film...

and I thought Jake's lines sounded natural...

rushmore223 01-28-04 12:46 PM

Give Jar Jar the respect he deserves, Episodes 4 - 6 wouldnt be possible without him.

Had Jar Jar not been manipulated into voting Palpatine the Emergency Powers to build an army and essentially create Martial Law; What would Luke, Han and Leia have had to do in the OT.

If not for Jar Jar, A New Hope might have just been about Luke starting his own Chia Pet Farm.

My personal favorite is when he's leaving Tatooine and says, "I can't do it, Mom. I just can't do it." I always respond back to the screen with, "You mean act?"

smirnoff 01-28-04 03:59 PM

The only actors whose dialouge I can bear (if i actually pay attention) in Ep I & II is ewan macgegor, liam neeson and Ian McDiarmid. All the rest of the actors just don't have the skill to pull of such a BLEH script. Not that they are bad actors, but lines they have to say are just sooo baaadd.

On the positive side, I thought the action was kickass in both movies. That doesn't make up for Jar Jar imo, who is just soooo annoying, and never funny. His appearance and voice just drive me nuts. The Other Gunguns have nowhere near as annoy a voice as jarjar. In fact I found the other Gungun characters quite passable.

Why? It's fun to knock Jar Jar, especially in a thread that...is about saying how bad Jar Jar was. He truly was an obnoxious character, though not nearly as bad as Jake Lloyd.

Nonetheless some of us aren't bashing the films...we just really like some of them and it's disapointing to see them not as good as they could be. We love the Star Wars universe and wish that these things didn't mar them up. Phantom Menace to me is a nearly unwatchable film due to Jar Jar and Jake Lloyd, so I do curse their presence because I very much enjoy Lucas handling of visuals and action. With those two things gone in AOTC, I was quite pleased with Ep II and would say I enjoyed the hell out of it. But nonetheless this silly posturing is fun...what if, what could...why does our bashing of the character matter in a thread devoted to bashing Jar Jar? Meesa think it's all in good fun.

QuiGonJosh 01-28-04 06:08 PM

Good point , so because something is 5 years old it should nolonger be discussable.... make perfect sense to me...

Lets just be thankful that 30 years ago or whatever lucus couldn't make a character like the jar jar we all know and hate today. Because you know he would have.

Seeker 01-28-04 09:15 PM

Not only will Jar Jar NOT die, I hear he's being edited INTO the original Star Wars to show him yet 20 years older, and helping out in their quest.

smirnoff 01-28-04 09:19 PM

I hope you lie. for the fans sake.

Doesn't matter to me though, My OT VHS copies are just fine.

Oh come on. He's obviously a fan. As am I. If you don't expect that kind of reaction from him, what were you counting on then? 5 years *is* a long time man. I mean, mere months after Revolutions, those who were bashing it--myself included--were told to "stop beating the dead horse". Same case here, just longer time span. :)
