clemente

I don't think a movie that's labeled as the "xxx of its generation" ever actually pans out to be the "xxx of its generation".
I sure hope this film doesn't turn out that way ... or worse, the "xXx: State of the Union of its generation".

That is possibly the most jaded review of a film I've ever read.

I read Hugh Jackman's interview in Premiere a week or two ago regarding The Fountain, and it sounds like Aronofsky has poured his blood, sweat and tears into this project. And, from that trailer, it's pretty freakin' apparent. It's up there with The Prestige for my most anticipated flicks of this year now.

It would help if the release date is not pushed any further so we can actually see it!

Anyone else not like reviews written to assume how audiences will react to a movie? Just comes across as exceedingly arrogant.

Anywho, I found this mildly interesting:

British movie star Rachel Weisz was stunned when her new movie The Fountain was booed at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival yesterday. The film, directed by her fiance Darren Aronofsky, left the audience confused and disappointed - even though Weisz insists it is important to have something "different" on screen. The $35 million flop was snubbed repeatedly by movie studios until Warner Brothers decided to back it. The story spans 1,000 years and stars Hugh Jackman as a 16th century Spanish explorer, 21st century scientist and 26th century astronaut searching for the Fountain of Youth.
and from a review on imdb.com:

Perhaps the saddest image I've seen during the screening were some people booing this magnificent picture. I can fully understand their opinion, but I felt numb. How couldn't they be touched the same way as I was? How come they couldn't feel what me and some more people felt after that? It was immensely sad for something like that to happen. Maybe they just weren't ready to be surprised like that. I might never know...

and from a review on imdb.com:
I think people want fantasy/sci-fi instead of a exitentialist love story.

I like Aronofsky because he makes films that no one is making. That's why I'll see this one.

I don't think I've ever been to a movie that's been booed. People have hated them sure, but booed? C'mon now...

People booed The Fountain? It's position as the sci-fi classic of the decade is practically locked in now.

People like cookie-cutter movies. Movies they have seen before. Movies that are safe. Look how much business The Star Wars prequels did.

Wow, I just saw the ad on TV this morning, I had not heard of this movie before.

I really like the story and the cast, definitely on my list. As a matter of fact I have not been to a movie theater in 3 years but this might just get me to go!

I cannot wait for this movie. I've been checking out local book stores trying to pick up the graphic novel, but nobody has it. Looks like I'll have to order it online.

Did anyone notice it was re-rated to PG-13? Since I remember the R only being for 'some violence' I doubt much was cut. I can understand though, given the film's already limited audience.

Just saw a commercial for it. Tivoed it, looped it and masturbated.

Honestly, though, this looks great. I shed tears over Aranofsky's The Watchmen getting dropped. Effing crap.
