training day question (minor spoilers)

Is Loronzo always consitered the "bad guy" or a courupt cop? i have always heard prior to seeing the movie that he was and always has been the bad guy. but it always seemed like that he was trying to get drugs off of the street, or was his deal always to take them, and use them for his own use. But then when I viewed the trailer, it made it seem like he was "a dedicated cop, who was pushed over the edge within the 24 hour day"

I don't think being good or bad was the point with him. He probably started out honest but eventually got swept up with the power of his position/ability. It got to the point where excercising that power was all that got him off anymore.

The impression I got is that he had been "shady" for a long time, but found himself in over his head. Which just happened to be his first day with Ethan Hawke. (Can't recall the character's name.)

My view was that he was always a corrupt cop, or at the very least was on the line when he started. Seemed to enjoy his power too much to have ever been a straight edge.

He even says something like that at one point when Ethan Hawke character does something noble. He says something along the lines of "I used to be just like you."

I think he is a more shady Mackey from The Shield (or he is actually a cleaner Loronzo). He still makes busts and wants to get rid of some of the criminals, but learned a long time ago that for everyone you put away, 2 more come back in their place. And why should these ******* scumbags make all that money, he is going to tax it for the IRS so to speak.

no, some of the posts in the mature forum, are some of the most disturbing that you will ever see. lol. i didn't mean it to sound that cops are criminals, just that in a job where you are around criminals all day, talking to them, associating with them, even working with them (ie. undercover), it can be very easy to get your ideas of right and wrong confused. most of the time, you have to think like a criminal i order to catch them, sounds cliched, but it's true. training day is a good instance of that, denzel got so caught up in the criminal element, that even thought he thought that he was doing good, he got in way too deep, and his ideas of right and wrong became so askewed, that his behavior became that of criminal behavior. but he got his in the end, goes to show that karma is a beeyitch.
