Far from "fan freakin tastic".
Fantastical elements aside - A hottie like Liv Tyler working in a video store? Passable. Said hottie doing a thesis on porn viewing and stalking a guy - , it felt as if there was a good half hour or so of character development missing..
[oh, and Sierra Disc, don't forget the "slow clap" at the end of the "oh-so original "end at the school play with suspense over whether or not someone will show up!"".]
Yes, Liv looked [Jenny too], but if I didn't get this for what I paid during the CircuitCity.com fiasco, i'd be pretty pissed..

Not as good as his other stuff, but for this type of movie it isn't that bad. Sentimental and sappy, sure. But it had a little bit of that Kevin Smith edge there to keep it from gong overboard. I was impressed that this generally looked like a "real movie". His direction seems to be constantly improving, even if his writing is going the opposite direction.
Personally I think he should try a superhero movie or something instead of instantly retreating back to his Clerks universe, but hey. I think all along he should've been alternating between Jersy trilogy/series movies and other stuff all along, so maybe that's what he'll do from now on, I dunno.

It was so plastic, unoriginal and cheesy. Easily the worst thing in the flick.

I enjoyed the movie, a little sappy at times, but still a pretty big fan of it. The only scene that I didnt care for was when
I wish Smith would have cut that part out as it drives me crazy. But either than that I truly liked the film.

A year or so after the film was released, Smith presented a longer cut of the film at Vulgarthon. I guess based upon his Twitter feed of this afternoon, he's finally going back and properly editing the longer edit of the film.
I just want to know who's releasing this Blu-ray... because we all know Mill Creek ain't funding this restoration.

Looking forward to it. I enjoyed JG, but it definitely felt like it should have been fleshed out more.
Hopefully the extended cut won't turn it into Mallrats territory.

I never thought Jersey Girl was that horrible, but it seems weird to make an extended cut for this now. Can't imagine many people would be rushing out to buy it.

Most of what was cut from the film was J. Lo's performance. After the failure of Gigli at the box office, it was decided that the film needed to distance itself from the Ben/J. Lo pairing as much as possible. So her role was hacked down to the point of being a cameo.
Everyone expected the deleted footage to be on the DVD release like all his other films had received to that point. But then the DVD came out bare bones and the special edition never arrived.
I always wanted to see the extra footage, but more as a curiosity than expecting greatness.

So...no Mallrats on Blu ray, and the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back BD is almost barebones (except the commentary).
Say what people will about Kevin Smith as a director, but he was always generous and inventive with the DVD releases of his movies. Why is his Blu ray track record so spotty?

I'm guessing re-licensing the older bonus material would cost too much, and creating new bonus material would take too much time out of getting high and spending all day on Twitter.

Oh, I know the history. I watched Jersey Girl at what could be considered the height of personally being a fan, and I strongly disliked it. I don't think making it longer is going to do anything positive for it; just like Mallrats. But you never know.
