LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Middle-Earth mania continues unabated.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" piled on two additional honors to its already overflowing mantel. The Southeastern Film Critics Association named "King" as the year's best film and director Peter Jackson as best director, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"King" is the final installment of the classic fantasy series based on the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. The film passed the $200 million mark at the domestic box office in only 11 days, beating the record set by its predecessor, "The Two Towers," by a day.
The SFCA also named "City of God" as best foreign film, Bill Murray as best actor for "Lost in Translation" and Naomi Watts as best actress for "21 Grams."
The following also received honors: Brian Helgeland for best screenplay for "Mystic River," Tim Robbins as best supporting actor for "Mystic" also, Renee Zellweger as best supporting actress for "Cold Mountain" and Andrew Jarecki's "Capturing the Friedmans" as best documentary.
The SFCA is composed of 43 critics from nine states.
