Love Don't Cost a Thing
a 'black' remake of Can't buy me love with Nick Cannon and Christina Milian
I thought it was worth watching just for Christina Milian, she's a total cutie
otherwise it's fairly lame

I was wondering about this one I just wanted to see CM too. I thought Nick Cannon was alright in Drumline. (Orlando and the music really made the movie for me I LOVE Earth Wind & Fire)
But Nick has become irritating to me as of late. Guess I'll catch it on HBO or something.

Saw this last week. Plotwise, it's one of the most straightforward remakes I've seen. Just about every plot beat happens word for word. Sure, they change the details (Old: he mowed lawns, new: he cleans pools), and the leads are black, but in reality the movie isn't even really that much more 'black' than She's All That, etc. There's an interesting mix of black and white, although all are into the urban style and music (but isn't that the case with a lot of teens now anyway?).
The only other noticeable change is the father character (played by Steve Harvey). He's pretty much the equivalent of Eugene Levy's 'American Pie' character, and was almost a more glaring ripoff than the rest, which at least was listed as 'Based on the script Can't Buy Me Love' in the credits. Really, if you love CBML and want to see an updated version, here ya go. If you hated CBML, or if you think its fine the way it is, avoid this one. It's the exact same movie.

Christina Milian is just like a black Vanessa Marcil, both are ultra cute petite cuties with bums from heaven!
yes this movie was cringeworthingly close to Can't buy me Love which i thought had more emotional impact that this movie
Still i hope Christina has a future in the movies

I totally agree. Personally, I think he's kinda Goofy and nothing special talent wise. But I guess in Hollywood he's the "Nizzle of the hour".
