I actually felt more emotional about it on my second viewing. Rohan just does it for me.

i have never read the books or anything by tolkien for that matter. and i would say i welled up at least 6 or 7 times during return of the king. it was a much more emotional experience than either of the first two films and i'd say that's true for most others in my situation that i have talked to.

i'm not sure how you ended up with the experience that you did, but maybe it would be different if you revisit the film.

It's Lit 101. *All* the main characters changed. Although Death is the ultimate change that is not what is required in an effective story.

The degree of change varied from character to character. But as a "Story" both the book and the movie *work*.
