Forrest Gump
Memento

QuiGonJosh 12-03-03 07:30 PM

English Patient for sure!

but the most overrated piece of shit I have ever seen is Chicago! That movie actually made me physically angry!

island007 12-03-03 07:33 PM

Citizen Kane (1941)

xDareDevilx 12-03-03 07:45 PM

Fight club
The Usual Suspects
The Matrix (all of them, didn't like the 1st, the 2nd was awful, won't see the 3rd)
The Lord of the rings
Gladiator
Forrest Gump
Raging Bull
Lawrence of Arabia (boring as hell, photography was amazing though)
Trainspotting (hated it)
American Pie (2nd and 3rd funnier)
Catch me if you can (sucked and very boring)
About Schmidt (hated it)
Adaptation
A Clockwork Orange (still damn good though)
The Exorcist

I believe a movie has to be 10 years old to have anyone objectively rate its greatness.

Similarly, I find it hard to pay much attention to an "overrated" or "underrated" tag placed on recent movies like Matrix, LOTR, etc.

QuiGonJosh 12-03-03 08:03 PM

do you people have ADD? Not liking Lawrence...2001...Citizen Kane? fools...

G**amn. If Lawrence of Arabia is just *okay* please do us all a favor and list some films that you feel are superior so the rest of the world can get up to speed.

Damn opinions. How dare you!

Ah yes, two of the best movies from recent decades. Good choices. Good. Good.

Glad you stated which version. For a second I thought you were referring to the 1997 Jerry Bruckheimer Ben Affleck-as-Charles Foster Kane remake.

I hear ya QuiGonn. I realize the validity and reason to respect opinions here, but **** my opinion is this thread needs to be edited and changed to "Best Films".

No, I just think Citizen Kane is overrated -rolleyes-. It does have a good point; it helps fight insomnia.

Gyno Rhino 12-03-03 08:21 PM

Welcome, Pauly.

Thanks SOOO much for your input. Go threadcrap elsewhere, please.

Overrated means just that. Are 'Raging Bull' and 'Fight Club' great movies? Yes.

But Raging Bull constantly gets named best film of the 80s. And I think that that is overrating it quite a bit.

Same with Fight Club. Everyone and there mother gets up in arms about how great this one is. It's great, I agree. But is it the best movie of all time? hell nah.

...yes!... yes!... yes!... yes!...

(...thinks : finally! at long last! someone agrees with me on this movie!...)

Edit: ...a few more movies in that vein : The Element Of Crime / Insomnia (...the Norwegian/Swedish original, never saw the American remake...) / The English Patient / Legends Of The Fall / Meet Joe Black (...although, truth to tell, Brad Pitt never looked lovelier...) / Little Buddha (...although, truth to tell, Keanu Reeves never looked lovelier...) / The Last Emperor... oh, I could go on all day...

. . . :o . . .

<internal monologue>Ah . . . finally a thread that gives me a chance to really piss off a whole bunch of people. But how to best take advantage of the opportunity? . . . Ah-ha!!!&lt/internal monologue>

I think that <insert you're three favorite movies here> are far and above the three most overrated movies of all times. I can't believe that anyone ever like them. I think that the original prints would be better used if they were melted down to be used as pink flamingo parts.

<internal monologue - Mr. Burns style>Ehhhhxellent . . . &lt/internal monologue - Mr. Burns style>

cruzness 12-03-03 09:57 PM

The English Patient
Shakespeare in Love
Chicago
Rushmore
The Royal Tenenbaums
Magnolia
The Thin Red Line
A Beautiful Mind

All are called superb films but I find them to be mediocre. Sure there may have been some great performances in them but these are all hype.

Gyro, for arguments sake, could you name me 10 better movies in the 1980's than Raging Bull? I'm not flaming, just curious to see what you'd rank ahead of it.

rice4kidsinasia 12-03-03 10:56 PM

the ring

Groucho 12-03-03 11:34 PM

The Ring wasn't made in the 1980's, nor was it better than Raging Bull.

Well I fell sorry for some of the movies chosen. But for me it's

MONTY PYTHON'S HOLY GRAIL

Yes, it's British humor, but way way wayyyyy overrated IMO.
