I really enjoyed this movie. Very eery and creepy atmosphere. It kept you guessing through the end, Who did it?, Is Miranda really crazy?. Good shocks, it got me a few times, and that's rare for me.
A really nice horror/thriller. A good step up for Dark Castle.

I just got back from Gothika and I really liked it. It was pretty freaky and was a lot scarier than the other Dark Castle Flicks. Overall, it is a better movie than the other D.C. movies too. Berry does a good job in her role and I really like the story and atmosphere. I'd advise people to go see it, even though some critics are bashing it. If you just let yourself have a good time, you probably will. B+

I saw it tonight and I think its the worst film from Dark Castle. It looks nice and slick but overall the story is not even that good, its been done to death already. It isnt even an original story line. Booooo!

Hmmm, well i saw this tonight and through the first hour and a half or so I really liked it. It had a couple of decent scares and a genuinely foreboding atmosphere but it seems they ran out of good ideas (or at least borrowed ones) after that. The biggest mistake the movie made was ending the way it did, with a typically cheesy and predictable finale. I guess I liked it overall but just barely. I was amazed to see the theater jam packed for a 10:10 showing in Hartford, CT. I have seen quite a few openings of big movies at the same theater (such as TMR, TMR, T3, LOTR:TT) but none were as packed as this theater was. Overall I would give it 4 out of 7 stars (yea I used a 7-star scale so what of it).

It wasn't all crap. But if a better story accompanied the cinematography and acting potential, I would have been more satisfied.

We sold out the 9:05, 10:20 and 11:20 shows an hour in adavance. "Halle Berry, full of grace..."
Most people leaving agreed it was a decent film, ranging from "alright" to "tight" and "cold".

I'm a big fan of both Halle Berry and Robert Downey Jr.
that being said, this is a horrible movie.
The plot is beyound ridiculous, the script has lines that are as funny (unintentionally) as Will Ferrell in ELF and the direction and sound effects are mostly horrible.
An absolute waste of time and money.
One of the worst movies I've seen this year. I ignored the crappy reviews it got across the board (except for Ebert, who likes every movie these days) but the critics got it right this time.

Thought it was pretty awful, too. Completely devoid of any suspense or scares, lousy script (I enjoyed myself more when those lengthy dialog-less scenes would come up), and one of the dumbest, cheesiest-looking endings in quite a while.
I even managed to miss the previews, making this an entirely wasted $8.

I liked the first hour of it, despite the predictable and cheap jump scares. I thought it was creppy and atmospheric with good direction from Kassovitz. The acting wasn't too bad either. The first hour wasn't great, but it still managed to entertain me. Then they decided to bring in the whole
for the ending and it ruined everything. The final nail in the coffin was that ridiculous
scene at the very end that felt like it was tacked on for no reason at all.
All of the Dark Castle movies seem to have to same problem in my opinion. For me, they start off okay, but towards the end they turn to crap. The Dark Castle films have good actors, a top producer, even decent direction. Now all they need is a good script.

I liked it alot. I think Dark Castle really raised the bar with this film... (please refrain from referring to how low the bar was to begin with)... I like Dark Castle movies - I think they're fun. They all seem to suffer from hokey ending syndrome, but they're just supposed to be fun horror flicks - not academy award-winning dramas about the struggles of some mentally crippled one-legged soccer-playing pianist who teaches the audience to appreciate life.
I thought Gothika was good fun and a step above the previous Dark Castle films. The film has a few minor problems, but it still worked for me... I'll be picking up the dvd. I can't wait to see what they come up with next year.

But the Bond "sailboarding over the horizon" scene? Now there's a movie killer. Next time they should just slap a leather coat on him and have him jump a shark..

I saw it last week too. I'm not quite as opposed to it as you are. It was, in its own way, entertaining, which is all I ask of a horror flick. That said, the cliche was WAAAY too much (dark insane asylum in a thunderstorm with constantly failing power ... come on), and you could drive a truck through the plot holes.
Still, it's a horror flick. Plot holes and cliche are usually part of the package.
