Michael Kamen dead at 55

I just heard it on CNN headline news. He suffered from Multiple Sclerosis.

Here is the story

Whoa.

That sucks.

Great composer, great musician. He worked with everyone, from Queen to Floyd.

Damn

Jepthah 11-18-03 03:45 PM

:( So unjust. He was a talented composer and will be missed by many people in the film and music communities. I had no idea he was ill.

Rogue588 11-18-03 03:46 PM

when I first saw the thread, I thought it said "Michael Keaton dead at 55"...

this is a shame. his work, particularly on the Die Hard & Lethal Weapon series, was outstanding..

why the hell don't we have a cure for MS yet..? jeezus.

RIP

Geofferson 11-18-03 03:47 PM

that sucks :(

Jepthah 11-18-03 03:50 PM

I think of all the scores of his I have heard, the one for Terry Gilliam's The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen was the best. One of his lesser known, as well.

He added so much to the Pink Floyd albums. They're probably very down about this news. :(

BlackBeauty92 11-18-03 04:47 PM

R.I.P
:(

This does suck - I always enjoyed his scores.

edytwinky 11-18-03 05:53 PM

:(

Damn that's really sad. I'm sorry to hear that, I had no idea he had MS. Like everyone else, I enjoyed his scores immensely, but I what I'll always remember about Kamen was his performance with Aerosmith at MTV 10, the 10th anniversary of MTV. They played Dream On and I get chills every time I hear it to this very day(I never go more than a week without listening to it). Just incredible stuff, and I'll listen to that until I"m old and grey. To me, that was my favorite day of using the internet when I realized I could get that off Napster.

RIP Michael Kamen.

His music for the film Brazil is some of the finest ever. A truly brilliant artist I am deeply hurt to hear this news.

What a tremendous loss... My personal favorite is his 'Band of Brothers' score.

Scorpio 11-18-03 11:21 PM

Wow. This is terrible news indeed. :(

dcprules 11-19-03 12:28 AM

We lost one of the greats. Mr. Holland's Opus, An American Symphony, boy, that was an amazing piece. Not to mention the theme to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Really is a shame :( Best to his family and friends.

TREX1993 11-19-03 01:31 AM

A big loss to film-making...he was one of my favorite screen composers. I "air-directed" the opening overture to Prince of Thieves more times than I can remember.

Best wishes to his friends and family.

I loved his work with metallica and what he did with For Whom the Bell Tolls.

hgar78 11-19-03 09:10 AM

very sad and a terrible loss! :( he was a beautiful artist.

TeeSeeJay 11-19-03 10:28 AM

My favorite contemporary composer, along with Danny Elfman.

This is unfortunate.

eedoon 11-19-03 11:06 AM

Bummer. I first notice Kamen when I'm on junior high school, on his score for Disney's Three Musketeers. I think the score is better than the movie itself. One of the first movie composer I know. He will be missed. :(

Rupin 11-19-03 12:29 PM

I loved his Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves score. Morgan Creek still uses it for their opening logo.

It's such an magical theme.
