T3 - better after repeat viewings?

I saw T3 twice in theatres, and now once on DVD. And every time it's progressivley gotten better and better.

In fact, the third time was incredible. I've never found this with any other recent movies....anyone else agree? I know not everyone enjoyed this movie...

I find it's replayability to be pretty high as well. It has excellent pacing.

Daytrip 11-12-03 01:39 PM

it actually got progressivly worse for me.......but i still enjoy it enough to buy it

The second viewing was better for me because I had high exepctations for the film the first time I saw it and was disappointed when it didn't deliver. I really liked the action scenes, but the character development was rushed: on the same day Kate experiences great loss, she's able to pull herself together enough that she can flirt and kick ass. That's a little hard for me to believe. Perhaps if this film had gone a full 2 hours, the director could have fleshed out the characters better. It's still a fun movie though.

I liked it just as much in my second viewing. Holds up well with great action sequences.

Keep watching a movie over and over while thinking "this must be good, this must be good" and you'll eventually convince yourself that it is. :)

A second viewing helps as you know where the movie really ends and the little epilogue begins.

PJsig08 11-12-03 05:10 PM

If you tell yourself its not T2 and can't/won't be better than T2, it turns out pretty good :D

Jepthah 11-12-03 11:21 PM

I thought it was great from the first viewing. Thoroughly entertaining with great style (far better action than Matrix and most other summer bilge), and just the right amount of humor. If people 'rediscover' it on DVD, so much the better.

Deftones 11-12-03 11:37 PM

I only saw it once, and wasn't overly impressed by it. It was one of the better flicks this summer, but that's not saying much. I'm sure I'll enjoy it more watching it at home.

I watched T1 and T2 in preparation over the weekend. Then I watched T3 the day it went on sale. I must say, although I enjoyed it in the theater, when you watch all three back-to-back, I believe the flaws seem more apparent, and at times even looks to be just one step removed from a comedy. (If you disagree, check out the one deleted scene which, if it had been used, would have tipped the whole film over into a parody.)

Also, the chase scene with the crane could arguably be the best Terminator chase scene ever, but I don't think the movie's action does anything afterwards to top that moment - which adds to a little disappointment for me since that pulse-pounding scene occurs very early in the film. Still, if this series is to be considered a "trilogy," there's been plenty that have ended on far worse terms.

Lateralus42 11-13-03 09:54 AM

I think its the best Terminator ever, I love the ending.

peon73 11-13-03 11:55 AM

I think it diminished on my 2nd and 3rd viewing. The first time i saw it in the theatre, i walked in with very very low expectations, just because i had the notion that since cameron wasn't at the helm, anybody else directing it would suck. but it totally blew me away. thus 2nd and 3rd was more for, 'oh yeah, i remember that, that was cool.." feeling.

One thing i did enjoy seeing on the 2nd disc was a deleted scene of arnold with a southern accent, (him being a military guy) as the model for the t-800. "wow! it's me!"
it's a very funny scene, but if included in the actual theatrical version would have screwed up the vibe of the film...

drunkrob 11-13-03 11:56 AM

I enjoyed the moive alot more than I was expecting to but as we all know, low expectations helps. I liked the ending to the movie as well. Definately done to setup a potential fourth movie but still it'd be nice if more movies did something other than the cliche. AKA Matrix 3.

chanster 11-13-03 11:58 AM

Its a good film, not as good as T2 or T1 (I think the original Terminator is the best) but its a fun little movie that doesn't attempt anything more than a few cool explosions.

I miss Sarah Conner in the movie, but what can you do?

drunkrob 11-13-03 12:03 PM

The funny thing is I was one of those people who didn't really love T2 as it just wasn't the original.

fumanstan 11-13-03 02:31 PM

I think i enjoyed it a bit less watching it on DVD after seeing it in theaters. Still liked the movie though, and felt it worked great in the Terminator timeline.

DonnachaOne 11-13-03 05:38 PM

It's better after repeat viewings in the same way that a hammer hurts less after you've been hit in the head with it a few times, I suppose.

KevinSmithIsGod 11-13-03 08:40 PM

I just finished watchin the movie for the first time and I LOVED it..
I think its better than the 2nd in fact!!

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Don't get carried away now. I will say the 3rd is way up there with the 1st one.

I would to say, on behalf of Kevin Smith fans everywhere, that the opinions expressed byKevinSmithIsGod do not reflect those of the rest of Kevin Smith's following. At all.

A decent movie....sure.

As good as the previous 2? Heck no!

True to its roots? no. I find myself thinking that about a lot of movies nowadays.

Kaffe_02 11-14-03 12:16 AM

I liked it in the theater and now that I can sit in my own home and watch it, it is even better. I really think the movie is paced well and I absolutley love the ending.

indycohiba 11-14-03 09:18 PM

Great, I am picking this up before the sales end tomorrow!

The Antipodean 11-14-03 11:44 PM

Held up great on a second viewing to me (although the big chase sequence wasn't quite as bombastically cool on my small TV). One of the best sequels in a year of misfires and lame ideas. I admire how refreshingly original the ending of this one was, very much the opposite of what I expected going in.
