Why Dungeons & Dragons is better than Lord of the Rings

The 10 reasons Why Dungeons & Dragons kicks The Lord of the Rings ass any day of the week.

This question almost always comes up daily, as I'm sure yours too, so I figure I would make a list so that all of you can finally have the truth in print, just like the bible.

1. There has never been a crappy Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. On the other hand, The Lord of the Rings has brought us the crappy cartoon movie known as The Hobbit. I
remember having someone rent The Hobbit while I was but a wee lass and being bored out of my mind. This is the first movie I can remember that actually bored me so much I would leave every single time it was on.

2. There are no dragons in The Lord of the Rings. There were dragons in the book, The Hobbit yet none in the movies. Dungeons & Dragons, as always, never fails to disappoint and is filled with dragons.

3. The Lord of the Rings had Hobbits. How gay is that? There was nobody in Dungeons & Dragons that could be related to people that play dress up and hang out at "furry" meetings.

4. The story of The Lord of the Rings revolves around a ring. What does the ring do? We don't know other than all the propaganda Gandalf talks about. Dungeons & Dragons doesn't have anything as wimpy as a ring that does something that we don't know, they have a tool to control dragons.

5. Probably the coolest item of all is that the creator of Dungeons & Dragons has a small role in the movie. What does The Lord of the Rings have? Nothing but a bunch of no name hacks, which brings us to our next point.

6. Marlon Wayans. Any movie starring a Wayans brother automatically rocks.

7. jellyneckr at IMDB.COM says that Dungeons & Dragons
"is one of the most dazzling movies I have ever seen in my entire life". Funny, the same thing isn't said about The Lord of the Rings. I know I am not the only one that values jellyneckr's movie advice.

8. Peter Jackson is a hack who hasn't come up with an original idea since the beginning of time. You want proof? The Lord of the Rings is from a book. His King Kong movie is a
remake. Meet the Feebles is a clone of The Muppets. The Frighteners is a clone of the upcoming Eddir Murphy movie, The Haunted Mansion.

9. More proof that Peter Jackson has as much talent as the director of Back Woods is the fact that if you go to Google and type "Peter Jackson hack" you will get an amazing 68,900 hits. On the other hand, type in "Courtney Solomon hack" and you only get 1,090 hits. The numbers speak for themselves.

10. Everybody who is anybody dresses up and plays Dungeons & Dragons Friday and Saturday nights in the park. I've yet to see anyone dressing up to play The Lord of the Rings.

The bottom line is that if you are into The Lord of the Rings, you must also be into such crappy no talent bands such as Britney Spears. The rest of us on the other hand are to busy chasing down goblins with our +1 short swords to care.

to answer a few of your concerns:

1. You never seen the saturday morning cartoon series to D&D? follow it up with a crappy live movie

2. That's why it's called Lord of the Rings and not Lord of the dragons.

5. They tried the "Weekend at Bernies" type of role with Tolken's corpse, but it just ended up on the editing room floor. :(

6. Marlon Wayans. Any movie starring a Wayans brother automatically sucks.
Fixed. ;)

eh both of them suck compared to the wonder and glory that is Star Wars Special edition.

El-Kabong 11-08-03 02:22 PM

I've always known that D&D was the superior movie to Rings. For one, D&D doesnt spend a third of it's story telling time as a travel-log, pointlessly wandering from place to place.

(A third, of course assuming that all three Rings movies are counted as one complete work, and Rings fans claim)

Yeah D&D was a bad movie - but at least it was fun. Rings was just a *boring* bad movie.

TomOpus 11-08-03 02:47 PM

Good stuff there, Chemosh6969... got a chuckle out of me :)

Mr. Salty 11-08-03 02:52 PM

I would agree with 1 and 2 if it weren't for the fact that "The Hobbit" is a completely separate book from "The Lord of the Rings."

raven56706 11-08-03 03:07 PM

why Lord of the rings is better then D&D

D&D:
Production cost:$45 million
total gross-$15,220,685

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Production cost-$93 million
Total gross-$313,364,114

If D&D is so much better, where did the fans go when the movie came out.

Nuff said........

Bottom line is if you dress up friday and saturday nights to play d&d, there are still some spots available for the Average joe show.

Now if only they made a movie about Dragonlance.

A party on a quest to defeat an enemy from the east that has returned to conquer the world. How original.

So, when did mental patients get internet access? And why are they not on meds?

That list was pretty funny in parts.

rushmore223 11-09-03 02:20 PM

I don't think I have laughed so much in weeks. Thank You!

By the way, is there a link to any other of jellyneckr's faves? I think we would all value this info.

I find it hard to believe some people are actually taking this post seriously, get a sense of humour people!

DonnachaOne 11-09-03 02:21 PM

Ah, I see the subtlety of satire is lost on some people...

caligulathegod 11-09-03 09:46 PM

That was subtle satire?

By the way, Kabong, I always respect your intelligent posts in other threads but do you have to crap on every LOTR thread? We know you don't like it. We got it already. I mean, God love ya, you are funny and smart but please give LOTR a break and just ignore it for a while. It's been two years already.

Ian11 11-09-03 10:31 PM

Man, I can't figure it out either. LOTR is supposedly bad but why do I spend so much time re-reading the books, re-watching the movies, and spending countless hours looking up and discussing LOTR on the internet. And I care nothing for other fantasy movies and books that have more action and more monsters. Somethings definately wrong with me I guess.
