It will probably suffer a Hulk like drop next week though.

While Reloaded technically had only $5 mil on its first day (a Wednesday) but that was special late night showings only. It made a whopping $37.5 million on its first full day. The $24 mil for Revolutions is considerably less, but maybe it just means more left for the weekend. It's the third biggest Wednesday opening behind Phantom Menace and Two Towers. Those movies ended up with $64.6 mil and $62 mil, respectively, for their first weekends.

Unfortunately, I think it probably represents people like me, who were underwhelmed by Reloaded and aren't interested in going immediately or at all to see this one in the theaters.

I see it taking in less overall than Reloaded.

That wasn't it's "first day." It counted as a "sneak preview," but unlike most "sneak previews," it's gross wen't towards the actual film and not towards another film. When a film usually has a "sneak preview," it's gross goes towards another film that is already playing (ex: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back's sneak preview gross went towards another Dimension film, The Others).

And $5 million which mostly came from 10pm showings around the country is pretty damn good.

Matrix made over $450 million worldwide and Reloaded made over $750 million worldwide. That already is $1.2 billion. And you especially can't forget the DVD sales, video rentals, and other merchandise (such as the video game, t-shirts, etc).

What the heck? Is that true? That sounds pretty stupid and doesn't make sense at all.

Haven't actually heard that myself, since there seems to be a lot of attention payed to how much movies make in previews now.

That all said - Matrix Reloaded opened in May - where many colleges are out on break before the summer term and high school is winding down. Considering it's November, I'd say $24m is impressive as hell for any movie - even a Matrix.

Well it's not entirely right. Matrix opened on Wednesday evening, which isn't really a sneak. It is more like what Jurrasic Park Lost World did when opneing, coming out evening time the day before. Sneak previews are one showing only, and yes those grosses are folded into the movie it's replacing, but it's one showing and it ain't for big movies like Matrix. Big event movies don't need sneak previews.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Still, 11 million for a Thursday during the school year is phenomenal.

I had no doubt this would be a huge hit no matter how hard it sucked.

And personally, I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting horror, and it turned out to be pretty good.

Game/movie/Vhs/Dvd/merchandise is rumored to be $1.9 billion before the release of Revolutions and rumor is Joel Silver gets 7% of the total gross.

Also, every movie theater in town had lines for Revolutions earlier tonight.

I saw it tonight in a theater that was about 75% full. It wasn't busy and there wasn't a line to wait in for seats. I was mildly surprised.

Where summer movies make most of their cash in the first ten days, winter movies slow burn through MLK Day. Revolutions should be healthy (along with others) through New Years.
