That's awful news. He was great. Really stand out Emmy worthy performance on 24 who brought multiple layers to that character. Lovely tribute from his son quoted in the article.

I loved his character on 24, but still think the reveal of him being the villain and not an idiot was bad writing. He behaved incompetent until the reveal and changed his behavior completley afterwards. That never added up for me. Still his acting was great.
