Rating the star trek films. How would you rate them?

Re: Rating the star trek films. How would you rate them?
I've only seen 3 Star Trek Movies, and the tv shows up to some of Voyager.
My favorite was Wrath of Khan but I felt a little disappointed after all the hype I heard about it. The scene with Chekov realizing where they were was pretty good.
First Contact was cool but again, a little disappointed after the hype. I always thought the various 2-parters on TNG were better than the actual movies. The Locutus storyline was much more intense to me than FC. Finding out
Nemesis actually had me excited. I thought it was going to be a movie about the mirror-universe where they get trapped in an alternate universe and they meet their evil counterparts. Instead

Looking at my rankings, I'd probably throw Search For Spock up to great and The Voyage Home down to very good.

Re: Rating the star trek films. How would you rate them?
The Voyage Home vexes me. Part of it is that my perception is (admittedly unfairly) colored by the way audiences in general often praise it. I agree that it's got a great message, wonderful humor and is a delightful movie. But then it bothers me that audiences act as though it's some kind of anomaly; the Star Trek movie that's "actually good." I shouldn't let that taint my enjoyment of the movie, but on some level it does.

Re: Rating the star trek films. How would you rate them?
I've only seen the original crew movies (and Generations, since Shatner and Doohan were in it). Of those, here is how I'd rate them:
ST VI - Great film...the best of them all
ST II - At the same level as VI, although I do enjoy VI slightly more
ST V - Could have used some better editing, but still much better then people here realize
ST IV - Great film when it was released, but has not aged well
ST III - Mostly boring film, and Christie Alley's replacement almost sinks it completely
ST I - Even more boring then III. I've tried a dozen times to sit thru this, and just can not make it.
ST Generations - Great opening 10 minutes, and then it turns to total garbage

Re: Rating the star trek films. How would you rate them?
I really like them all but if I was ranking them I think they'd go like this:
1. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country- good send off of the original crew coupled with an interesting story make this my overall favorite Trek movie.
2. Star Trek- did what needed to be done for years. Rejuvenated the franchise and connected with new and old audiences. Yes there are some hardcore fanboys who will whine about it, but they are what was killing Trek all along.
3. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan- classic story of revenge. What else is there really to say about this one? Ricardo Montalban was absolutely fantastic, the sacrifice of Spock, action mixed with some drama make for a great movie.
4. Star Trek: First Contact- The Next Generation's finest movie. It was dark, had good performances by all, and overall just one of the more re-watchable Treks.
5. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home- just pure fun. Seeing the crew trying to understand the time that they were stuck in.
6. Star Trek III: The Search For Spock- I've always liked this one. The death of Kirk's son, Christopher Lloyd as a pretty cool Klingon. This has always been one of the more underrated Treks in my book.
7. Star Trek: Generations- maybe because its the first one that I remember seeing in the theater but for some reason I've always enjoyed this one. Nice passing of the torch feel from The Original crew to The Next Generation crew. Kirk dying in a pretty lame fashion is the biggest downfall for me. Also the destruction of the Enterprise D felt unnecessary and seemed like they were doing it just because they could and wanted to build a flashier ship.
8. Star Trek Insurrection- I honestly don't remember this one all that much as I haven't seen it in quite some time. I do remember not hating it though. I'll probably watch it tonight after work as I haven't seen it in years and maybe give more thoughts on it.
9. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier- one of the weaker Treks for sure. I don't blame it all on Shatner's direction like some like to but a lot of stuff in it just didn't work. The best part is the score.
10. Star Trek: Nemesis- this would have been a fine movie if it wasn't the final send off for The Next Generation crew. It had some stuff in it that I liked, but I didn't like that the whole time it felt like they were trying to do some lame rip off of The Wrath of Khan. It really is a shame The Next Generation went out on this one.
11. Star Trek: The Motion Picture- just a boring film to watch and it goes on forever and ever. My favorite part is the scene with Scotty and Kirk in the shuttle docking on the Enterprise. Had a cool feel to it coupled with that great score. One of my personal favorite Trek moments.
