LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Hide the rum. Jack Sparrow is back!

A sequel to the summertime blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" is officially on the way, report industry sources.

The inimitable Johnny Depp will once again buckle his swash as the pirate Jack Sparrow.

Also returning to the high seas are actors Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, director Gore Verbinski, and screenwriters Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot.

There's no word yet on the film's plot, but no doubt it will provide Depp numerous chances to swish across the screen.

In other Depp news, the smoldering actor is not only stealing hearts, but wives' loyalties as well.

French designer-turned-screenwriter Eve Mavrakis passed over her husband Ewan McGregor, who some find hunky as well, for her upcoming "For Love of Art," preferring to pursue someone with Depp's charms.

"She said, 'Do you know who I'd really like to play the lead role? Johnny Depp,'" says McGregor, according to media sources.

The spurned husband adds, "It's a dark story about snuff art, in which people are actually killed for the sake of art. The lead role of the detective is a drinking, womanizing, despicable character, and it's hard to get films made about characters who are not likeable."

A drinking, womanizing, despicable character? It sounds like Jack Sparrow has found his calling.

"Pirates of the Caribbean" is faring well at the foreign box office, and the $300 million mark is just over the horizon for U.S. ticket sales.

I wouldn't mind a movie about Sparrow, but I think Bloom and Knightly should be left out of it.

Knightly was the 2nd best part about Pirates... -drool-

Depp was the 1st, because he was awesome as Sparrow... well.. and I guess he's kinda cute too. :)

Geofferson 10-15-03 04:10 PM

Looking forward to it. This'll be Depp's first sequel to anything. Just as the first was his first blockbuster.

So this pirate walks into a bar with a boat wheel attached to his D*ck. The bar tender says 'Hey man, why do you have a boat wheel attached to your D*ck, doesnt that hurt?'.

The Pirate replies:

Spoiler:
"Aaaargh..it's driving me nuts!"

Awesome. I usually don't look forward to random sequels, but if Depps involved it's almost sure to be great. He just doesn't seem to take crappy roles. If the script isn't decent he wouldn't sign on to do it.

This is excellent news. The only thing that could have really ruined this sequal was not having Depp or Bloom back.

Depp Wants Keith Richards as 'Pirate' Dad
Fri, May 07, 2004, 10:05 AM PT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - It's no secret that Johnny Depp modeled his "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" character after Keith Richards.

Now, the 40-year-old actor reportedly wants the Rolling Stones musician to play his dad in the upcoming "Pirates" sequel, according to Britain's ITV and People.

In the 2003 summer blockbuster, Depp played the swishy and smirky pirate Jack Sparrow who lived to drink and womanize -- a salute to Richards' sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle. Of course, in light of Richards' condition resulting from that hard living, perhaps it would be best to settle for a cameo by the 60-year-old legendary guitarist.

The highly anticipated sequel will begin shooting in 2005 and will also star Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, who are reprising their roles.

Depp's portrayal of Sparrow -- which was also based in part on amorous animated skunk Pepe LePew -- won him an Oscar nomination for best actor. He next stars as beloved children's author J.M. Barrie in the upcoming "Neverland" and will step into the wacky shoes of Willy Wonka for Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

This seems like a no brainer!
