And the winner is...

Originally posted by The Nature Boy replying to Geoferrson The exact number in my head. Followed by a HUGE word of mouth drop off, because I don't think the word is out that this is in 2 parts, and J6P's leaving this will be HUGELY pissed. Friday: 8 million and change Sat. Just under 8 million Sunday: Just under 6 million. There are all sorts of mediating factors that could drop the numbers, but not to those levels. I haven't made my way out to it yet, but I"ve heard despite the rave reviews, from my j6p pals that it's "weird". I love QT, and the reviews have excited me for this, but the early returns show that not only could this split release thing be bad, but it could be flat out disasterous if it drops below 10 million next weekend. |
What do I win? ;)
I think Kill Bill should do okay, especially considering there's a 2nd half, DVD sales, and international box office. It won't make much money though, looking at $55-$60 million domestically which is pretty mediocre these days (unless something drastic happens). |
The Friday-Saturday dropoff is extremely common amongst hyped up movies, usually - strong hold friday, then normal Saturday and Sunday takes (and actually it's Saturday drop off was so little it isn't really that big a deal) It also made $3.1m on Monday.
I hope it does well, I don't know many J6Ps so I can't really ask 'em. |

Joe Six Pack never knows he's Joe Six Pack. Kill Bill Vol. I made an additional $2m on Tuesday, over 2x more than the #2 movie - which happend to be Intolerable Cruelty. |
While a lot of people here love Kill Bill, the sad truth the people who make or break a movie are not ones who post here. They are the J6P people who want to watch big explosions and humor about bodily functions. Occasionally, a movie comes along that is good and offers a lot for J6P (LOTR, Gladiator).
Kill Bill was made for a specific audience and I have the feeling most of them have already seen the movie. I predict that both movies will end up with around $100 million combined, pretty good when veiwed as two $25+ million movies as opposed to one three hour+ film that would be making less than this one if released. |
