You know. I just have to post my picture once again.
Just 2 minutes after 12 noon and get on it.
3 tickets. $91.00

it's going going going..
30 minutes later still going. I checked on the other parts of the website and it was slow to a crawl. try calling the numbers. busy busy busy.
argh. I hate this. they should really add another theater or two. this would sell out.

I'm hoping that New Line decides to add a few theatres, too. The manner that this was handled in is unacceptable in my book. Things were not coordinated at all, noone seemed to have any info, and getting tickets seemed basically like a crapshoot. Most theatres from what I've read hadn't even imposed a restriction on the number of tix that you can purchase--I've read of people purchasing up to 20 tickets apiece. What a waste--what could have been a wonderful event has been turned into a joke IMO. I can take my chances on Ebay, but I will not pay any more than face value for the tickets, and at last check the tickets on Ebay for my area are up to about $100 just for one.

Yeah. My rant on how the state of entertainment is at right now with the whole "Countdown.com lines" spreading out a bit to much and expanding to everything. Not to mention the whole Ebay factor in this. I'm sure 18 of those 20 tickets will be thrown on ebay tonight.

Strangeness:
Tired several times yesterday to snag tickets for the individual showings with no luck at all.
Decided on a whim to try again this morning and boom; both purchases went through! Happy happy joy joy!

I still have no idea whether tickets are/were/will be on sale in Toronto. There's no information anywhere as far as I can tell.
Most strange, because I remember reading somewhere that Toronto had the highest per-city gross for TTT in North America.
Does anyone here know anything about this?

I completely agree with those above that said this whole thing was handled stupidly.

main reason I'm starting to move away from this whole scene. the stupidity of ebay, factor in the lines for what was once something easy to get to has turned me away from all this crap.
two tickets on that search are shows I would have gone to if I could get through, now they are being auctioned away for double the amount. I was online trying at 12:03 and the website was going up and down. I thought my transaction could have gone through (see picture above) but really, it pisses me off that the theaters screwed up hard on this whole ticket sells. It seemed that only the people in the know, knew about this and had the chance to get tickets. the theaters should try to get a second theater with it. Look how fast it sold out. Considering they are pretty much charging 10 bucks per movie where at the time frame they would only get half that (day time show hours) it could be a major profit for them. Not to mention how many theater goers are there on tuesday anyhow? Considering the amount of time the films would normally take since the EE's will get a theater release, there really is no point to NOT doing more of these. they were going to have a midnight showing of Lord of the rings anyways on that tuesday night. Might aswell make a profit on it even more. sad really.

I figure more theaters will do this considering the ticket sales or the existing theaters will add showings and maybe even turn the all their large screens at their theater over to this. It is one day with a bunch of people stuck in your theater for hours so the chances of sells of food go up.
sounds like a win win to me.
I refuse to buy anything from ebay anyway.

I cannot believe people are willing to pay such an enormous amount to see these movies. I'm about as big a fan as they come but I will not, on principle, pay any more than what the tickets are worth. I have also been told that the seller who is selling tickets for the theatre near me is currently under investigation by Ebay for possibly violating Ebay rules, but I'm not exactly sure what rules he is violating.

I am really confused about something. Many US states have ticket scalping laws that restrict the resale price of any event ticket, including the states where some of these eBay scalpers reside. Even eBay claims to abide by these restrictions.
How is it that these people are getting away with this? For example, one guy is selling/scalping tickets in Boston, where the law states that you can't charge more than the face value of the ticket + $2. I don't get it.
[edit]
Timing is everything. Just read two posts above me that came in while I was typing. Sounds like eBay is doing the right thing. Cool.

If I end up having extra tickets, I wouldn't sell them above face value. But it's hard to sell tix to people that I don't know personally considering the fact that I can't pick them up until the day of the show.
Sorry so many of you guys got screwed by the disorganization of this whole thing. I went home during work to buy tickets because I trusted my pipeline connection more than the Starband connection at work. I was afraid of an overloaded server and/or tix being sold out too quickly, plus the storm coming through town yesterday and the efficiency of Starband when that crap happens.
I agree that adding additional showings of this marathon is a win/win situation for everyone.

I just want to add a couple of things. I arrived at the Plano Cinemark by 11am and got a place in the middle of the line. As far as I'm concerned Cinemark was exemplary in handling this situation. They partitioned off a que and sent people to one of 5 ticket sellers as they moved forward. The whole thing was over in 5 minutes. Plenty of staff was on hand to assist. Everyone in line got tickets although unfortunately I did see someone buying 10. When I left I'm sure there were at least a 100 out 533 left for online sales. The girl selling me tickets told one of the managers that they had around 250 left.
Now I thought I might stay home and order tickets online, but for something as limited as this is going to be I decided it would be best and try and get them in person. Granted I live 5 miles from the theater, its easy to get over there and I was off work Thursday (not planned, just lucky), but I think more people should have considered that the online ticket sales might have problems and gotten out to the theater. In fact, for something as limited as 500 tickets and one show only, I don't think they should have even tried offering them online. The end result is pretty obvious.
I hope they do offer this at least at one more theater in everyone's area or on another screen. However I don't know if it will be likely, just make your voices heard.

I just wanted to tell everyone that there is hope--an acquaintance from another message board had bought 7 tickets anticipating their friends going, but nobody was interested so she offered to sell the tickets for face value to anyone who was interested. I just talked to her and she said that I have a pair waiting for me if I want them, so I took 'em. I'd advise anyone who really wants to go(as I do)to keep your eyes peeled.

I just saw this on theonering.net:
William writes: I can attest to the fact that most, if not almost all, of the tickets to the Plano, Texas (a suburb of Dallas) Trilogy Tuesday were purchased by scalpers online. People from across the country purchased 10 tickets apiece even though they may live a thousand miles away for the sheer purpose of selling them on E-bay for profit. As a result, the tickets were sold out within a few minutes and people who stood in line for hours were denied. It is quite a scam and people around here aren’t happy. No one that I know of from the Dallas/Fort Worth line party got even a single ticket. In the future, New Line needs to either exclude Fandango from the sale of such “once in a lifetime” tickets, or make such an exclusion a part of any licensing agreement with the theaters. The Internet makes it way too easy for scalpers.
This report is complete rubbish. Everyone in line got tickets. If the line party people are the same people who camped out all night then they certainly got tickets and one of them I witnessed bought 10 tickets!

I posted a small rant in my personal journal about the Ebay thing.
One soft-headed dimwit tried to tell me that the scalpers were helping the market, and that they were just ordinary businessmen.
Bull. That's like calling drug rings "ordinary businessmen."
Maybe it's because I've worked in various collectibles markets for over half my life, but I know how scalpers can totally ruin things. I've seen these slimeballs first hand - they don't care that they're destroying hobbies, since they're just in it for a quick buck and then they move on when the market is dried up.
I know, selling tickets isn't the exact same as scalping collectibles, but it's still the same people, and they still suck.

hopefully the success of this will encourage them to show it on more theatres. They can't be worried that it will lose money anymore.
To the ebayers, I suggest you bid $5000 on every auction, so that the scalper never gets to sell his tickets.

I agree with you totally. I have been going to collectable shows for over 13 years now and I have seen how the state of the market is. It really is sad that this has become a major annoyance. You rant is apperciated and I feel your pain. Just wish things weren't in the state they are in.

I'm hoping and praying they add some more showings for this. I completely missed out on the ticket debacle/sale. Doesn't sound like I woulda had much chance even if I had known about it. Damned scalpers.
