This viewing experience reminds me of a XXX movie my friend has called "Weapons of Ass Destruction".

DaveNinja 10-03-03 01:50 PM

wow a 10 hour XXX "weapons of ass destruction" fest? i'm so there

DaveNinja 10-03-03 01:53 PM

from another post about the same thing (re posted for the times):

worldwide Dec. 16 daylong marathon, during which all three films will be shown back-to-back. Exhib guidelines call for a 3 p.m. showing of "Fellowship" followed by a 7 p.m. screening of "Two Towers" and then an 11 p.m. screening of "Return of the King," which will carry over into Dec. 17 -- the day of its global release.
only have to take half a day off work. are the first 2 films really 4 hours?

wlmowery 10-03-03 02:12 PM

I believe the EE of FOTR is about 3.5 hours, thus giving patrons a half-hour recovery until TTT starts. Then after TTT EE, you'll have about 15 minutes to stretch and prepare for the wonders of ROTK. Now I just have to convince my wife that we need to do a short getaway for our anniversary... :) (and yes she loves LOTR too...)

The Nature Boy 10-03-03 02:19 PM

I plan to go and talk during each film and have my cellphone go off all movie, get up and down frequent and piss in my storm trooper outfit. STAR WARZ RULEZ!!!

tronmaster 10-03-03 03:00 PM

Oh my gosh!!

It's gonna play in Hawaii!!!

I am so there, I want to see the extended on the big screen!!

Yeah, I was really excited to see it coming here. I've all ready got a group of friends revved up about going. Can't wait!

JestersTear 10-03-03 03:23 PM

I just called my local theater, and they have NO information beyond what Jack posted.

They suggested that I call back on the 7th for start time, price, and how the tix will be sold (first come first served, armbands, lottery, etc).

Anyhow, first shifters should figure on taking a day off. A half-day to get out early and make it to the theater for the beginning, and a half day the following day to sleep in. You do realize that Jackson is fighting for RotK to be shown unedited, clocking in at almost 4 hours, right? Getting home at 4am after spending 12 hours in a theater is probably a little too much for those who have to get up at 6 or 7 in the morning :-)

REL77 10-03-03 04:02 PM

I was hoping for more in Wash DC/Northern VA Area, Uptown is a great theater, but with just one, its going to be hell there. I am still going to try to go.

DaveNinja 10-03-03 04:08 PM

I';m wondering how much its going to be, like the price of three seperate tickets? I would like to go see it in Bakersfield and see what the "armpit of california" tolkien nerds look like. i hope theres no big rush or line here for tickets, so far ive gone to opening showing of the first 2 without any problem getting a ticket.

IL, Springfield Kerasotes Showplace 8
MO, Saint Louis Wehrenberg Theatres Ronnies 20

Sweet Tits!!! I have two locations w/in an hour!!! Actually the Kerasotes in Springfield is an hour away, but the Ronnies in St. Louis is only 15 or 20 minutes. The best part about this is I can take a day off of work in the winter time no problem - actually this would probably require two days - my sore ass will need a day to recover. Now we just need to find out how to get tix. Please, please, please let us be able to purchase them online, so I don't have to sneak out of work or show up late.

Too bad its not coming to my favorite theater, the Kerasotes only ten minutes away, but I won't complain since I didn't think the release would be so big.

If I can't see the marathon, I will definitely try to get tix to the individual shows.

This may require Depends. ;)

Thanks Jack.

Thanks for the follow up for those who added what they know.

12 hours.. eh, I'll do that greatfully. :) 1.5 liters of soda's in 12 hours? I used to do 3 two liters a day back in the day. ;)

Oh man, this will be an event to remember.

Showcase Cinemas Maumee, OH is the best theatre in northwest Ohio (doesn't take much) and I was planning on going there to see Return of the King at midnight anyway so why not make a day out of it? Anybody else interested in going can reply here or email me at [email protected]. Hopefully we find out how to get tickets soon.

yeah, all pepsi. Amazing how cold you can get them when you stick them in the ice cream freezer at blockbuster for a while.

"You do realize that Jackson is fighting for RotK to be shown unedited, clocking in at almost 4 hours, right?"

hadnt heard anything like that... where did you hear it? Be a lil weird to have normal and EE versions of films 1 and 2... but then just one of the third flick? Not to mention new line would be flushing a few bazillion down the tube... (short movie = more showings, triple dip dvd etc etc).

Argee about the Maumee theater (but like you said, there's no real competition here). I have finals to grade that week so I probably can't do the marathon but the midnight show isn't out of the question.

beckham 10-04-03 01:24 PM

Does anyone know if the listed sites will be restricted to only a screen a theater or a couple screens at each place??? Hopefully the latter so there will be more tickets.

FiveO 10-04-03 01:54 PM

Oh thank god....I don't have to drive to Chicago :)

KenobiKid22 10-04-03 01:58 PM

I just called my theater here in Indianapolis and they had plenty of info. The manager said I could get tickets Thursday at 10am and they are going to be $18.00. He said it was one screen at this time, but possibly 2. Now if I could just convince one of my dvdtalk buddies to go everything would be set. This is going to be a great day.
