I think they're all brilliant, but I go with 2001.

Eyes Wide Shut is my favorite of his, the one movie of his that I personally consider a masterpiece. It seems I'm the only one who loves this film.

Followed by 3 others in no order: Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange.

I didn't like The Shining a great deal, but it was decent.

Don't get me started on 2001: A Space Odyssey. . .I can understand why people like it, and I respect those opinions, but I can't say I liked it at all.

I still need to see Paths of Glory, Lolita, some of his earlier films, Full Metal Jacket, and Barry Lyndon.

It may seem that way among your friends and acquaintances, but you are actually in a sizable group of people who agree with you. I have seen EWS many times since it came out after Kubrick's death and it gets better all the time. It has inspired many articles and analyses of very great depth, just like all of Kubrick's other legendary work.

Word... Jepthah and I disagree on the best film of 1999 (I still say Magnolia) but I've loved EWS from day one... And it keeps getting better with each viewing. Great, great, great film.

I agree with you--I think it is an excellent movie. I said when it came out that it will be underappreciated now, but like most of his films it will be better appreciated in time. Look at 2001--when it came out most people wrote it off as boring and dull, and now it is considered one of the greatest films ever made. I think that EWS will be no different, although I wouldn't rank it as one of the greatest films of all time.

I too will chime in with love for Eyes Wide Shut. I saw it with a bunch of punks who hated it, but I thought it was fantastic and have watched it many times since. It'll never make a top movie list of mine, or even a top Kubrick list, but it's great to hear it getting some love.
