Your bump makes this the perfect opportunity to post a video review I put together of Halloween III.

It includes highlights of all the goofy bits as well as an examination of Roger Ebert's bizarrely inaccurate review.

Nice review Cocker!
I don't agree with your overall assessment, and still love the film, but good presentation and observations.

I am surprised that i missed this thread. I for one LOVE this movie and will always defend it. I really liked the idea of each year telling a different story about Halloween (which could each have their own franchise) instead of always going back to Michael Myers. The story is a little kooky, but i still love it. The cinematography is great, i like seeing Tom Atkins as the main character and Stacey Nelkin was hot. Seeing her in the tests for her to play Pris in Blade Runner was soooooooooooo wrong though. I think they were going to get her to play another replicant called Mary (the one running through the electrical field????), but glad they didn't. The Shout Factory Blu Ray is also awesome with a good episode of Horrors Hallowed Grounds.

Not genius and not crap. Starts out good with a menacing atmosphere, then as it progresses it becomes a bit hokey. I love the soundtrack, cinematography and dark ending (all very Carpenteresque).
It's also better than all of the garbage sequels that came after.

Too bad Halloween couldn't sell people on the idea of an anthology series of film, but at least 30 years later, TV has gotten on board with the idea (American Horror Story, Fargo, True Detective...)

I think this is a wildly underrated film. Loads of creative moments. One of Carpenters best soundtracks too. Besides the two excellent leads I greatly enjoyed Dan O'Herlihy. He has a great monologue at the end.

I saw this in the theater the weekend it came out, other than what I had read in Fangoria I really had no idea what the film was going to be about since Michael Myers wasn't in it but actually really enjoyed it. And damn, I still get the Silver Shamrock song stuck in my head every year around Halloween.

Okay, every time somebody talks about this movie on the internet, it's about how unfairly maligned this movie is for not featuring Michael Myers. If it didn't have Halloween in the title, it would be considered an 80s cult classic. I no longer consider this film to be unfairly maligned, it's clearly got a considerable fanbase.
