It includes highlights of all the goofy bits as well as an examination of Roger Ebert's bizarrely inaccurate review.
I'm not sure you can criticize a movie's writing when your review contains lines like "...Mr. Cochran, which sounds a little too close to Mr. Cock Ring".

Nice review Cocker!

I don't agree with your overall assessment, and still love the film, but good presentation and observations.

Re: Halloween III: Pure genuis or Pure Crap?

I am surprised that i missed this thread. I for one LOVE this movie and will always defend it. I really liked the idea of each year telling a different story about Halloween (which could each have their own franchise) instead of always going back to Michael Myers. The story is a little kooky, but i still love it. The cinematography is great, i like seeing Tom Atkins as the main character and Stacey Nelkin was hot. Seeing her in the tests for her to play Pris in Blade Runner was soooooooooooo wrong though. I think they were going to get her to play another replicant called Mary (the one running through the electrical field????), but glad they didn't. The Shout Factory Blu Ray is also awesome with a good episode of Horrors Hallowed Grounds.

Not genius and not crap. Starts out good with a menacing atmosphere, then as it progresses it becomes a bit hokey. I love the soundtrack, cinematography and dark ending (all very Carpenteresque).
It's also better than all of the garbage sequels that came after.

Thanks.

Too bad Halloween couldn't sell people on the idea of an anthology series of film, but at least 30 years later, TV has gotten on board with the idea (American Horror Story, Fargo, True Detective...)

I used to have weird, mixed feelings about this movie. Now, I love it.

Because it's way better than the rest.

The first is the best but I like the first three pretty equally.

I think this is a wildly underrated film. Loads of creative moments. One of Carpenters best soundtracks too. Besides the two excellent leads I greatly enjoyed Dan O'Herlihy. He has a great monologue at the end.

I saw this in the theater the weekend it came out, other than what I had read in Fangoria I really had no idea what the film was going to be about since Michael Myers wasn't in it but actually really enjoyed it. And damn, I still get the Silver Shamrock song stuck in my head every year around Halloween.

I think it's gained somewhat more of a following over the years but it still seems like a pretty divisive film. Some are willing to look past the fact that it's labeled as part of the Halloween series and take it for what it is while others bash it for the same reason. Truthfully I had never even seen it until fairly recently when Scream Factory put it out on Blu-ray and I fell in love with it the first time I watched it. I expected it to be crappy the first time I watched it but it's really fun 80s horror.
