your first film.
I'm not talking about your first film you ever saw, I'm talking about your first film where you noticed lighting or themes, or actors that had been in other films you've seen but not really noticed and then you start to put to things together.
For me it was LA Confidental, I am 29 years old and I had obviously seen films before this (T2 and Silence of the lambs were two films that had really stuck with me and are still two of my favourites). The thing with LA Confidental was I saw it when it was re-released after the Oscars, and noticed costumes and music, I paid more attention to the actors and storyline.
What was yours?

I wasn't allowed to see it in the theatres since I was too young and it was rated R. But I managed to get a rental copy when I was 13 yrs. old back in 1984. Even though it was only "fullscreen" on a small 13" TV the picture changed the way I looked at movies forever.
Then, when the Directors Cut came out in theatres back in 1992 I got to see it in Widescreen and on the Big Screen and I was blown away again.

I put on Do the Right Thing about 12 or 13 years ago to kill some time, thinking it was a flat-out comedy. When it was over I was pacing around the house flabbergasted. When I went outside I was slapped in the face by the snow on the ground, I had actually been lulled by the film into thinking it was the summer time.

Probably The Lord of the Flies (original). I saw it on TV when I was 8 or 9 and was thoroughly blown away by the production and the acting and the story itself. Up until then, I watched mostly Disney cartoons and Herbie the Love Bug, stuff like that.

Schindler's List, back in '94. I was 14 and already a Spielberg fan, but I was blown away by the amazing black & white cinematography, which prompted me to find other movies lensed by Janusz Kaminski, which led to my fascination with composers, directors, actors, etc.

When we watched In The Heat Of The Night in English class in grade 9 (I'm 22 now just so you know) that was the first movie that affected me in a way other than just simple entertainment.
