anyone seen this film yet?
this is a really accurate and hardcore portrayl of young girls.
hard to believe that they're only supposed to be 13 though.
great performances by Nicki Reed & Evan Rachel Wood.
Reed cowrote with director Catharine Hardwick.

Just got out of this one. Accurate? Maybe, for a very small portion of the population. But then again, what do I know, I didn't grow up in L.A. Maybe shit is really like this there.
The pacing of this movie seemed very off to me. I could never tell when a day had passed or a week had passed. Major interactions between characters were not shown or implied but then were referenced to as if we were just supposed to expect them to happen. The first time Tracy's mother went to see Evie's cousin, it seemed like they had known each other for a while. When did that happen?
Interesting film nonetheless. I'm glad I saw it, as I had been interested in seeing it for a while now. I know the actors were significantly older than thirteen, and they didn't hide that fact very well.
My favorite performance came from Jeremy Sisto. Good work!

I still haven't seen this movie, although I really want to. My roommate saw it, though, and positively hated it.

Saw the movie a few weeks back and was impressed. The performances are solid all around.
As for being extreme and way over the top, people need to wake up, and that's the movie's point. Sure it's a small percentage of kids that may be like this, but it happens. And you're either naive or in denial if you think not. And as Holly Hunter's character says she "didn't know it went that far".
Growing up, I remember one girl getting pregnant when she was 13, and was stunned. Each generation has exceeded the next when it comes to shock value, and it only accelerates now with the instantaneous news feeds.
There was some news / reality show on TV that talked about a group of girls in their early teens in a small town who went on a crime binge and held up some convenience stores and were captured on tape. It was pretty scary, because it WASN'T a movie.
As for the ages of the characters, I don't know when the film was shot, so they may have been even closer to 13 at the time.

Yeah, stuff like this happens. Not always in urban settings, mind you. I was watching Dateline NBC once and they did a story about a town named Banning (which is just outside Riverside, for anyone living in Southern California). There were only a few dozen teenagers in the town, and it was extremely small and boring. They only thing to do there is go shopping at outlets. So they formed a sex club and had all kinds of sexcapades, right under the noses of their parents. It only came to light when they all had to be treated for Gonorrhea

Just saw this yesterday. Very powerful film, and I don't think the actions depicted in it are that farfetched. I can imagine parents all over American scrutinizing their children more carefully, rolling up sleeves, etc.
Evan Rachel Wood gave a terrific performance. It was obvious on "Once and Again" that she's a fine actress, and I'm sure she'll have a great film career.

all I can say is after watching this film... I ran home to hug my 12 year old daughter... and to tell her that I love her... very powerful film, and while I agree that this is obviously dramatized for impact... It is a fairly unflinching look at the impact of peers on "good kids"

I have a 12 yr old daughter, too, and I really want to see this film.
Too bad it is on so few screens - and not near me
Guess I'll just wait for the DVD.

I haven't seen the film yet, and might not still. My teenage stepdaughter is just now growing out of a phase where she hung out with this type of "extreme" girl, among others. In other words, too frikkin' close to home.
