the Trailer looks excellent, as does the other Sean Penn move 21 Grams, this guy has got to be the most talented actor out there.

I agree the trailer is excellent. I also just finished with the book and plan on checking it out. I have faith in Clint, so I have high hopes for the movie.

When I watch this, it'll be the first time ever that I've read the book before watching the movie.

I always try and read the book before I see the movie. I read Jurassic Park before I saw the movie and I was let down by the film.
With Mystic River, though, it may be the first time that I enjoy the movie better than the book.

Everybody can breathe easier - it's GREAT!
I just saw MYSTIC RIVER this evening (opening night of the New York Film Festival) and like almost everyone else in the audience, was practically blown away by it. What a treat to actually see an intelligent movie for grown-ups - unfortunately we don't get very many of those any more. Some stunning performances, especially Sean Penn and Marcia Gay Harden, but everyone is terrific - not a bad performance or false note anywhere, and many intensely emotional moments. And speaking of "notes" - Eastwood also wrote the score for the movie.
The film was introduced by Eastwood himself, who was joined on stage by Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Laura Linney and Marcia Gay Harden. At the end of the screening, there was a well-deserved standing ovation.
Great movie!

Glad you liked it, though. Just makes me want to see it even more.

I have faith in Clint too, but I also remember the horrible "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil" film, so I'm looking forward to this one, but worried he may screw it up.
