Box Office Predictions for 9/12?

What are your Box Office Predictions for 9/12? I personally think OUATIM will hit 45 mil and Matchstick Men will be around 25 mil. Cabin Fever Im guessing will get about 15 mil.

I'm going to say Mexico at top with $34 million. But honeslty, I think it's probably the toughest movie of the ENTIRE year to predict. Desperado has gained a much bigger fan base through DVD & rental, Hayek is now a pretty big star & Depp's star has just instantly rised since POTC. Whereas before he was pehaps the most underrated actor in the business, now he has been catapulted to leading man status & I think marketing has REALLY pushed his role in Mexico to more than it is.

And I would be shocked if Matchstick men broke $20 million.

$45 million for Mexico? Are you kidding me. Let's remember this is September...not a big time for the movies.

Matchstick and Mexico will make around $20 million, maybe $25 million if they're lucky.

No way Mexico hits $45 million -- has a movie opening in September EVER done that well? I predict $23 million for it.

The top 5 biggest September openings:

1. Sweet Home Alabama - $35,648,740
2. Rush Hour - $33,001,803
3. Double Jeopardy - $23,162,542
4. Remember the Titans - $20,905,831
5. Barbershop - $20,627,433

Three of those films are PG-13, one is PG, and one is R.

I predict OUTAIM will make somewhere around $20 - $25 million, Matchstick Men will make around $15 - $20 million, and Cabin Fever will make around $5 - $10 million.

Is OUATIM going into wide release? I just assumed it would start out in a few theaters, and gradually grow (since I haven't seen too much about it, outside of the boards).

I'll see both OUATIM and Matchstick Men, but my wife will go with me to MM (no convincing necessary) and I expect I'll be seeing OUATIM solo.

Not sure about Cabin Fever. Big Budget horror movies tend to suck.

Big budget horror movie without a single big name attached? Rider Strong? come on. This movie needed the review of the director from LOTR in their ad. 5-7 million tops and a straight to video/DVD smell.
OUATIM I hope fails. I dislike Banderos and Hayek, so they couldn't pay me enough to see this movie. I think a 15 million weekend is about what it will get. Maybe a bit less.
Matchstick men. 12 million tops.

Whoever said 45 million is either working for the company releasing the film or smoking some fine stuff!

Once upon a time is also rated R
No more than 30 mill I think.

Matchstick around 15
Cabin fever around 8
The collected works of jason batemen retrospectve 6.5 mill

I am always wrong about these box office # predictions.

Anything else opening wide? {g}

why does september suck for movies? is it because good movies never come out or is it more of a end-of-summer-people-dont-spend-in-september-economy-thing?

I think Matchstick Men will beat out OUATIM in the weekend (if not overall) take...I'm guessing Matchstick will be getting a much wider release.

It's a combo of things... kids going back to school... studios holding back their "big guns" for December (school's out, Oscar contenders).... you still have the big summer movies still taking up screens... people tired of the summer moviethon.

A movie can do decently... but not blockbuster boxoffice.

I think it's not going to be a very big weekend (at least according to this thread).

OUATIM: $21
Matchstick Men: $12
Cabin Fever: $10

OUATIM will bank about 28.9 million dollars (mostly because of Depp, because he is the most loved man in Hollywood now)

Matchstick Men will probably tank...I say 8.5 million first weekend

Cabin Fever.... $1.5 million

unless people are still pissed about the "USA is a puppy comment" and that he does not want his kids raised there, etc.....

Football is a big reason why the box office suffers in September.

I'll go with:

OUATIM: $25 million
Matchstick Men: $13 million

he later said that all that was taken out of context...that he still loves the USA and everything it stands for...or something like that

Before this gets into a Depp debate Id like to remind you that there are several threads covering his comments.

Slightly OT, but POTC regained the #1 box office spot on Tuesday so in theory if there were no new releases this weekend, it would probably be the #1 film on it's 11th week of release. Amazing.
